It is the selfishness. They don't want anyone to come between them and their line. They know other road users will try to either enter or take advantage of the space.
What they don't know is that you can avoid unncessry accident and costs and life just by giving a decent distance. Personally I give the next car plenty of space. If you want to slide in, please do so, if you horn for me na you go tire. I don't joke with my life and I don't have money.
