Prof Shima Gyoh: Buhari Not The President We Desire, He is Incompetent by phylshan: 6:39am On Jan 29, 2020 |
Professor Emiretus SHIMA GYOH who is former President, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) today took to his Facebook page in what he encapsulated 'My Ideal President' to pass a vote of no confidence on President Muhamadu Buhari. MY IDEAL PRESIDENT. A country elects a President to ensure national integrity and unity, international cooperation and security of boundaries, and to ensure internal peace and development. The President is given a free hand to appoint those who would help him achieve these goals. If such appointees perform below expectation, the President is expected to correct or replace them. This is why the public must hold the President himself responsible for the performance of his government. To grill his assistants (Ministers, Advisers, etc.) on government performance is a useless exercise, at least in Nigeria, as they would fear that admission of fault implies criticism of their boss and endangers their jobs. Since the buck stops on the President’s table, he must personally face the press at frequent intervals. Once elected, the President must realise that he is responsible for the entire country, not just president of his political party. He must reduce partisan political activity to the very minimum and go the extra mile to demonstrate to Nigerians that he cares for all, particularly in the areas where he lost to the opposition. The public, on their part, must not see any praise or criticism of the President as a partisan opinion, and this can be done only if the president adopts a national rather than partisan posture. In summary, 1. The President should regularly personally face the press to give account of his stewardship to the nation. 2. The President should do frequent state visits, particularly where he lost to the opposition to make them feel included in his circle of care. 3. When a tragedy that could threaten national unity occurs, like the murder of a pastor, the President should drop whatever he is doing, address the nation and pay a solidarity visit to the grieving community. 4. Cries about marauding herdsmen attacking villages and seizing farmlands have been very loud in the last four years. The President has not made any statement on the issue, making the accusation of his concurrence indefensible. 5. Security is at an all-time low. The President should have personally addressed the nation and changed strategies that have been consistently failing. 6. The war against Boko Haram demands that the commanders should be changed as has been the practice. Reports of Nigerian troops complaining of lack of food, equipment and neglect seem to be ignored. This war needs more of intelligence than aerial bombing. 7. The President does not seem to listen to the people. Admittedly, some press statements are made on a strong partisan background, but a good President would not just discard that baby with the bath water 8. Miyetti Allah have made numerous provocative statements, the latest being that the Yoruba must disband Amotekun or forget the 2023 Presidency. How can the President remain silent on such pronouncements without giving the impression that Miyetti Allah is now the kingmaker and the government? 9. The President should hold back the security services from brutally stopping all demonstrations. Allowing the opposition to get things off its chest tends to stabilise, clamping down on all opposition polarises the country and destabilises the nation. 10. The electoral system needs urgent attention. It was most unwise to make certain appointments despite loud public outcry. In a decent society, suffering so many reversals in court, the INEC chair and staff should have either resigned or been sacked. It is impossible to have democracy if the people do not have confidence in the electoral system. 1 Like

Only hell deserves to have Buhari as president.... Not a country inhabited by humans Buhari is a disaster of the highest order A man who promised to fight Boko Haram from the front and defeat them in three months but can't be seen even at the back today A man who promised to stop public office holders from seeking medical treatment abroad but was first to break the promise A man who promised to cut cost of governance but today leases out the presidential jets to his family and friends... A man who promised to fight corruption and today we are worse off that even transparency international can attest to that... Buhari promised to create millions of jobs for the youths but today.... Youths are losing their jobs in droves... List is endless... Buhari is evil personified and those who support him are worse than Ebola 3 Likes |
