The National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday released the Internally Generated Revenue figures for states for the third quarter of this year with the states generating a total revenue of N293.80bn.

The bureau in the report, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Abuja stated that Lagos state recorded the highest IGR with N91.93bn while Rivers state followed with N31.05bn while Yobe State recorded the least Internally Generated revenue.

The 36 states and FCT IGR figure hits N986.29bn in 9 Months compared to N692.49bn recorded in H1 2019.

Similarly, the Q3 2019 states and FCT IGR figure hits N293.80bn compared to N392.38bn recorded in Q2 2019. This indicates a negative growth of 25.12% quarter on quarter.

Seven (7) states recorded growth in IGR while Thirty (30) states and the FCT recorded a decline in IGR at the end of Q3 2019.

Anambra has joined first 10 while Abia is almost relegated

Most of these states are in a lot of debt

I am sure Ogun might eventually catch up with Rivers in the next 2-3 years going by this trend.

I hope Dapo Abiodun will be able to maintain and surpass the achievement of Amosun in the %IGR increase.

Ekiti State seems to be improving too. They should however catchup with the rest of their kins at the top.

Lastly, the SW governors need to do more than just generating IGR, we want to see real development to complement anything they are generating.
