Has Counter-terrorism Become A Profitable Business In Nigeria? by Blue3k2: 3:56am On Feb 05, 2020 |
Despite massive expenditure by the Nigerian government over the past decade, counter-terrorism operations by security forces have achieved limited success and the country is still ranked on the Global Terrorism Index as one of the states most affected by terrorism. Is the problem one of bad policy, strategy and tactics, or is corruption in the leadership ranks of the security forces also to blame? Military spending is usually not audited due to its sensitive nature. The secrecy that surrounds it encourages misappropriation. Conflict entrepreneurs in the security sector also allegedly operate through the award of fictitious procurement contracts They can always start by auditing just to see the level of waste going on. Other than that people should be fired and prosecuted. a rethink of the excessive militarisation of counter-terrorism operations in the country's north-east zone. I wish the author expanded on this topic. |

Infact i feel it's now the most profitable business right now in our government. They spend so much on the war against terrorism in Nigeria and yet the terrorist groups and the herdsmen grows stronger, so you begin to ask where is all the money for weapons going into. Taking a look at terrorist countries like Iran and Iraq, there is something that I've noticed. The rate at which soldiers dies at he hands of terrorist in the Arab countries and other parts of the world is relatively low to the high rate at which the NIGERIA soldiers dies at the hands of boko Haram and you begin to wonder why. A soldier is not suppose to die easily, with the training, the intelligence and the weapon, we do not even need more than a thousand soldiers and airforce to chase Boko Haram out of our territory. But now it's like the Boko Haram are now attacking our military Baracks. Which is an humiliation and a slap on the faces of not just our military but our Flag as a whole. Then tell me, how you expect our Africa neighbours to respect us. One of the things that gives a country respect is her military and right now we have the weakest military in Africa going by our operations. Now how will this even be possible in a rich country like Nigeria with the highest population and deep down, we in NIGERIA knows we have strong men that can do the job, but the question is what is happening to our military? There was a movie i watched years ago, about 17 years ago, I've forgotten the name. When USA armies have to come to Africa to rescue a USA female doctor and some people, the difficult they had in Africa was the NIGERIA military, i remember in the movie after they have finally rescue the doctor and were being chased by the NIGERIA armies, the commander of the US army has to make a call for air backup and in his words, "we are being chased by some Nigeria armies, we need backup" Though they rescue the doctors and backup finally came and they escaped with lots of their soldiers killed by our armies. But my joy in the movie was how strong and badass our military was perceived in the movie, low key i was very happy that we did the chasing and they did the running, I heard it was a true life story. But now it's almost so sad and teary to see our military suffer this corruption. The military have been infiltrated by politicians, using them to do their bidding and harassing citizens of NIGERIA and while some die in the hands of Boko Haram. It's teary. There was a country. 1 Like |

The 1b USD from the excess crude account was for 2019 election campaign and not to fight any terrorism. Didn't Fayose say it then but obaseki was quick to cover up. |

In 2017, US$43 million cash meant for covert operations by the National Intelligence Agency was discovered in a private building in Lagos. Lol EFCC let the former NIA director and his wife escape. I doubt a spy would be idiotic enough to hangout in Abuja like Maina did. There's so many scandals that can only be dealt with a total overhaul of the security system. Buhari simply isnt the man for the job. |
