Speaking at the event, Dr. Shittu Bisola Daramola (MBBS, BSc. Biochemistry), enlightened the public on what cancer is and how it can be prevented. She defined cancer as abnormal cells that are replicating excessively in the body. It is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body which develops when the body's normal control mechanism stops working. Old cells do not die and instead grow out of control forming new abnormal cells. Cancer is a type of disease where cells grow out of control, divide and invade other tissues.

Explaining further, she emphasized that they are different types of cancer, mostly caused by:
 Tobacco which causes cancer of the Lungs, Mouth, Throat, Bladder, and Kidney and many other organs. It also increases the chance of developing heart and blood vessel disease.
 Spending a lot of time in the sun. Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer linked to UV light from the sun and tanning beds.
 Radiation. Exposure to nuclear fallout have a higher cancer risk than those not exposed. Being exposed to or working with certain chemicals can increase a person's risk of cancer.
 Hereditary: Research has shown that about 5% to 10% of all cancers are linked to genes that runs from family.
Talking about risk factors, Dr Shittu said there are two kind of risk factor. These include modifiable and non-modifiable risk factor. Modifiable risk factor are the things that can be worked upon, adjusted and prevented while nothing can be done for non-modifiable factors.

Non-modifiable factors include age, sex, family history, hormones and genetic mutation. On the other hand, most of the modifiable factors has to do with our daily lifestyle and the fact that we are now becoming westernized affects the general state of our health. These factors include: Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, intake of junks, drinking too much of alcohol etc.
To prevent these modifiable causes, the following are recommended:
 Stay away from tobacco
 Avoid too much alcohol

In general, She said the earlier cancer is found and treated, the better the chances are for living for many years. To find cancer early, while it’s small and before it has spread, adults should have regular tests called Cancer Screening Tests. These tests help health care providers find common cancers before they cause symptoms.
If cancer cell is not treated early, it can affect the bone marrow. And without a healthy bone marrow, you cannot make blood cells. If you don't have enough blood cells, you won't have enough oxygen circulating around your body and this will lead to less resistance to infection. At this stage, the victim will have no choice than to resolve to operations such as Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation for treatment.
Also at the briefing were the President of Real Estate Millionaire (REMS), Mrs Funke Kehinde and the members of the association.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Organization, Chudi Kalu said “the intention of this program is to create awareness among humanity and what people need to know to prevent it in their lives. We know that it is when we are healthy that we can enjoy the wealth we are trying to build. It’ is not enough to buy a property and not buy health along.”
“Knowledge is light, Ignorance is darkness! As we know, it’s only the educated mind that is free. Therefore, it is very important to let the public, our clients and the world at large to be less ignorance and more knowledgeable about how to prevent and destroy the killer disease called Cancer,” He said.
