Ondo Lg Elections: Group Hails Gov. Akeredolu's Stand On Free And Fair Primaries by dammyGold03: 7:16pm On Feb 08, 2020
As All Progressives Congress (APC) peacefully conducted primary elections ahead of the April 18, 2020 LGA elections in Ondo State, a group, *The Pentagon Movement Group (PMG)* has applauded the stand of the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN that ensured free, fair and credible primary elections across the State.

In press a statement issued in Akure, the State capital and made available to the press, the Publicity Secretary of the group, Damilola Afolabi said the State is lucky to have a man whose respect for democracy and the party constitution cannot be compromised.

The group noted with surprise to see an incumbent Governor giving room for internal democracy unlike what we have before now.

According to the statement, "the three leading chairmanship aspirants of the APC in Owo, for instance, are the Governor’s loyalists, but interestingly, the Governor insisted on party primaries to allow the people decide just as was done in Ondo West and other LGAs.

The Governor has successfully resisted pressures to impose candidates on the party across the State.

We are happy that this is happening in our own time as a people. Let it be known that there is always a choice on whether you want to serve the people or serve yourself.
Governor Akeredolu has chosen to serve, and, such displayed to the whole world".

The group commended the Governor for leading by example in the areas of entrenching the core value of democracy, despite the usual flagrant abuse of democratic process that has eaten deep into the polity.

The group further to applaud the Governor's refusal to impose any candidate on the party.

"As a leader of the party in the state and a seating Governor, he has all the required apparatus within his coffer to pick candidates and give directives as we experienced in previous administrations. But, the Governor has again shown exemplary leadership integrity as he has suggested full pledged primary elections where leaders cannot reach consensus on who represent the party". The statement reads.

The group therefore calls on political leaders across the county to emulate the humble gesture and respect for law the Governor has displayed in this regard as it will go a long way to strengthen the nation’s democracy and restore the lost peoples' confidence in who leads them.
