Yes this true just as Abraham slept with his wife's slave in the Bible.

Can you sleep with your wife's slave today?

Such laws have been abrogated!
Yeah, she was formerly a slave, but Prophet Ibrahim got married to her with the approval of the first wife.
Read Gen 16:3

Then, she gave birth to Prophet Ismail, which you all believe in...

It wasn't like prophet Muhammad having sex with a lady he is not married to.

Secondly, Why should such prostitution be allowed in the first place?

After the first law God gave to Prophet Musa in the Torah that "Thou shall not commit adultery"

Also note that, according to the Hadith
Sahih Muslims Book 15:176

The temporary marriage is still permissible.
Even though it was claimed not permissible.

It's actually not only in the time of war.

During one of the war,
The Muslims went to meet Muhammad and told him of their sexual desires.

Hmm...if you say so o

Well, not all marriages in Islam needs witnesses.

According to Sahih Muslims Book 16 Hadith No 17

In Islam, if you see a lady you will like to have sex with, you can contracts a temporary marriage, and it doesn't need any witness.

You can spend 1, 2 or 3 days with her, depending how you want to satisfy your sexual desires with her.

In d early days of Islam, Muslim were permitted to do contract marriage but later on a more verse was released to the prophet it was banned. Muslims are not allowed to contract a marriage

It was narrated from ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade mut’ah marriage and the meat of domestic donkeys at the time of Khaybar. According to another report, he forbade mut’ah marriage at the time of Khaybar and he forbade the meat of tame donkeys.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3979; Muslim, 1407.

It was narrated from al-Rabee’ ibn Sabrah al-Juhani that his father told him that he was with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who said, “O people, I used to allow you to engage in mut’ah marriages, but now Allaah has forbidden that until the Day of Resurrection, so whoever has any wives in a mut’ah marriage, he should let her go and do not take anything of the (money) you have given them.”
Narrated by Muslim, 1406.

Which verse was their marriage in Genesis? And Jacob married two sisters, Can you marry two sisters?
There are much worse things your LORD permitted.

Muta marriage was actually never forbidden or abrogated, but politics was played!

Muta prostitution or adultery was permitted then abrogated, then permitted, then abrogated...

Was it actually abrogated?
Let's find out!

Read Sahih Muslims
Book 16 Hadith No 19

Temporary marriage continued ALL THROUGH the lifetime of Muhammad and all through the lifetime Abu Bakr
Umar was the one who forbade it.

so Muhammad never stopped the muta prostitution.

Today Muslims still practice the prostitution,

Shia Muslims call it "Muta"

Sunni Muslim call it "Misyar Marriage"

Even in Saudi Arabia today, misyar marriage is going on.

Why would a prophet endorsed prostitution in the first place?

Read the below Hadith and explain to me how many witnesses you need when taking a lady you meet on the streets to bed.

It's called temporary marriage, for just sexual pleasure which won't be morethan 3 or 5 hours.

After the sex, the lady would be paid, depending on the amount you agreed before taking her to bed.
