Affirms award of contract for construction of water supply scheme
Officials of Federal Ministry of Water Resources Abuja, on Friday 7th February, 2020, visited the Vice– Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, to affirm the recently awarded contract for construction of solar powered water supply scheme in the institution.

Welcoming the team at the Vice–Chancellor’s Conference Room, Deputy Vice–Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Sunday Elom, who represented the Vice–Chancellor, expressed happiness that the young University is getting water from Federal Ministry of Water Resources, pointing out that water is one of life’s necessities. He appreciated the Minister for Water Resources and the Federal Government of Nigeria for the gesture, stating that the University would not take it for granted and promised full co-operation of the University management in ensuring the smooth take-off of the project and its timely completion.

Mr. Richard Adalikwu, of the Department of Water Supply in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources Abuja, who led the team, thanked the Vice–Chancellor, on behalf of the Honorable Minister, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Director, Water Supply&PPP, for the warm reception given to them, enthusing that they came to inform the University Authorities that award of the contract for construction of Solar Powered Boreholes with 100m3 Tank and Treatment Plant in the University has been approved, to improve the water supply situation in the University.

He emphasized that they came together with the project contractor to properly assess the water situation in the University, the piping networks and sewerage sites, to have first hand information and be in a better position to compliment what is on ground. The scope of the contract, he explained, include construction of 100m3 Elevated Water Tank (EWT), Drilling and Equipping of 3 Boreholes to be connected to the EWT, Supply and Installation of Solar Pumps and Panels for the Boreholes, 5km Reticulation, using various sizes of pipes and Construction of 30 Fetching Points plus Construction of Security/Operators Room and Fencing of the service area.

The visiting team was taken round the University water network by Director, Physical Planning, Works and Services (PPW&S), AE-FUNAI, Dr. Iheanacho Ezeocha, accompanied by Engr. Dr. Cyril Umeh who represented Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. O.O Ugwu and Engr. Sunday Adebayo, Chairman, AE-FUNAI Water Resources Committee, after which Mr. Adalikwu officially handed over the duly signed documents to the representative of Mthel Engineering Services Limited, the Project Contractor. Mr. Adalikwu enjoined the contractor to ensure that necessary arrangement for the smooth take-off of the project is concluded for the timely and quality delivery on the project.
