D’Tigress have moved up 3 places to 14th in the new rankings released by FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) on Thursday. The women’s national team garnered 366.6 points to be ranked the first team in Africa.

They are also the second highest climbers, only bettered by Mozambique, who moved up 7 places to 36th in the world and 3rd in Africa. D’Tigress moved up after qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, defeating Mozambique and losing to Serbia and USA in the process.

The top 6 in the world ranking is unchanged with USA, Australia, Spain, Canada, France and Turkey in that order, dominating the ranking. Belgium moved up 2 places to be ranked 7th in the world, while Serbia and China are ranked 8th and 9th ahead of Japan in 10th place.

Senegal are the 2nd ranked African country, 28th in the world, while Angola and Mali make up the top 5 ranked African countries at 41st and 45th in the world respectively.

D’Tigress will know their Olympics opponents on March 21, when FIBA will hold the draws, with the February rankings to be used in determining the seeding.
