Breast pain is defined as any discomfort, tenderness (pain on touch) , or pain in the breast or underarm region, and it may occur for a number of reasons.

THE MYTHS.
1) Majority of times , women freak, fret and fear at the slightest feel of pain in their breasts. The GOOD NEWS, generally, breast pain is not a sign of breast cancer, so breathe easy and relax.

2) It is important to know what is normal in your breasts ,so you can know when abnormality sets in. Women are encouraged to be breast friendly. Make your breasts your best friends.

3) You are stuck with the duo for life, so the earlier you familiarize and become bosom friends the better for your overall breast health.

THE FACTS.
Should breast pain cause me to be concerned about breast cancer?

Fact is, although many women with pain in one or both breasts may be concerned that it is breast cancer, it's most times not. The major cause of breast pain is mastitis, (breast inflammatory process from infection or reaction or even hormonal influence )

1) Majority of women can have breast tenderness( pain on touch ) and pain, also called mastalgia often.

In these women , the pain may come and go with monthly periods (cyclic) or may not follow any pattern (noncyclic).

2) Menstrual pain is the most common type of breast pain. It may be caused by the normal monthly changes in hormones.

Note ,this pain usually occurs in both breasts. It is generally described as a heaviness or soreness that radiates to the armpit and arm.

3) The pain is usually most severe before a menstrual period and is often relieved when a period ends.
4) Cyclic breast pain occurs more often in younger women.
