The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) will be conducting its yearly promotion examinations this Saturday 21st February 2020. Some of the things you need to know about the promotion exams are as follows:

1. The promotion exams is actually 2019 promotion exams not 2020. It should have been conducted last year but for reasons beyond the control of the board, it was shifted to 2020.

2. Officers from grade level 07 to 13 whose dates of last promotion is 2017 backwards are eligible

3. Exams are to be conducted at various zones which include zones A ,B, C, D, E, F, G, And H

4. all eligible officers are to pay a non receipted and non refundable amount of not less than N2000 each for accommodation and logistics of the exams coordinator.

5. Clearance of payments will be given by the finance committee inaugurated by State Commandant's and charged with the responsibility of collecting the compulsory N2000.

6. The clearance slip is to be presented by the officers at the exams venue before accreditation

7. Names of officers who paid the money will also be ticked in the eligibility list as a sign of compliance.

8. Names of promoted officers is to be published later in the year and disseminated through whatsapp and other social media. Just as the practice has been for long in the corps

9. A way out for officers who are reluctant to travel for the exams is to pay amounts ranging from N20,000.00 to N50,000.00 to acclaimed staff of the board (Civil defence, fire, Immigration and prisons board) through their agents in the Corps to enable them get their promotion. Just as it is seen in the the recent conversion excersize.

10. Promotion letters will be made available several months after the dissemination of the list of promoted officers. Officers will pay a compulsory amount ranging from N3000 to N5000 each for collection is their letters to a committee to be at up by state commandants. The money is not receipted

11. Implementation will take years. Sometimes 1-5 years. Arriers may be partly paid or not paid at all. This is a common practice as done of those promoted 2014 have yet to have their new levels implemented and some have even been promoted again in 2017 without implementation of 2014 promotion.

12. Officers will still have to pay the sum of N3000 to N5000 each for what is called documentation. This comes after they have collected their promotion letters.

13. On the exams day, exams are are delayed till night falls and sometimes as late as 9.00pm and question papers are often hand written and never sufficient to go round. 20 officers often share a question paper.

14. Officers who are not promoted will continue to write the exams every year until they finally succeed



However, officers are praying that the coming exams will put smiles on their faces. In 2017,and 2018 exams, only less than 2percent of officers who wrote the exams were promoted. There were states where not even one person was promoted.
