I have a blog and a lot of spammers are getting there, I used several anti-spam programs but none of them worked well, I can say for sure that I am disappointed in them. Now I need to check how good is Akismet before buying it.

I assume you should be happy with basic version of Akismet which seems to come with WordPress installation already. I assume it's also talk going about something like Wordpress blog comments and not actually somebody who is filling your contact form it's where Google reCAPTCHA will help.

To be honest, Akismet is not the only one that works very nice, there is also CleanTalk, Anti-Spam, Antispam Bee and so on. If you are really interested in it I can tell you a little about them. For example, Antispam Bee is another popular alternative to Akismet. The plugin blocks spam comments and trackbacks without subjecting your users to CAPTCHAs. You can allow comments only in a certain language and block or allow commenters from certain countries. Antispam Bee can also treat BBCode as spam and validate the IP address of commenters.
