It is no longer news that the United States put Huawei in its entities list. This banned the Chinese company from access to US-related technology. The ban has had a serious impact on Huawei phones with newer phones lacking Google Mobile Services (GMS).

However, these phones still use Android because of the system’s Open Source nature and its Linux roots. What this means is that the phones run Android OS but lack apps such as Gmail and YouTube.

Now, Google has applied for an exemption from the US government. This exemption would enable Google to re-license Huawei to use its Mobile Services.

The US has already granted Microsoft an exemption, and the company can now work with the Chinese giant. If Google also gets this exemption, then the search engine giant can give GMS access back to Huawei. What this means is that users of the phones will now have access to Google apps once again.

Huawei has already developed the Huawei Mobile Services as an alternative to Google Mobile Services. The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro came with the HMS. The upcoming Huawei P40 series will also use it. However, the HMS is not exactly a full-fledged substitute for GMS, especially for users outside China.

Wise move but the Chinese won't forget in a hurry and work on the Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem becoming robust enough to sustain indigenous Chinese phones will continue.

Americans are really smart.. They so much love the monopoly on the market and are afraid to give room for any competition...

No one knows how big the HMS may become so its better to nip it in the bud before it becomes a replacement for GMS
