Orphanage Home Raided By Police Is Known To Rivers Govt. Civil Society Org. Says by chiboyz1: 7:03pm On Feb 28, 2020
A group known as Civil Society Coalition for HIV/AIDS and other related Health Diseases has revealed that the operation of TenderLife Rescue Mission,an orphanage home busted by the Eagle Crack Police Unit last Wednesday at Woji,Port Harcourt is known to the Ministry of Social Welfare contrary to the claims by the Commissioner Inimie Aguma Esq that the ministry is not aware of the existence of the orphanage home.
In a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, the Chairman of the coalition,Comrade Otobo Dennis disclosed that the Ministry of Social Welfare in a letter signed by Mr. Iminabo. R. Fubara,a Director in Social welfare department on July 3,2019 an addressed to TenderLife Rescue Initiative(TRI) gave them one year probation to function and practice in the state within the confines of the law.
The Civil Society activist explained that himself and a representative of the Ministry visited TRI office last week Thursday to ascertain if the Non Governmental Organization is still operating within the confines of the law.
Comrade Dennis expressed shock that the Ministry of Social Welfare would deny knowledge of operation of the orphanage home even when the ministry was responsible for monitoring grant given to TRI.
The activist criticized the Rivers State Police command for not carrying out due diligence before arrest of the operators of the orphanage home and their subsequent parade by the Police.
The Chairman of the coalition added that the Civil Society group will do everything within the armbit of the law to prove that TRI is an orphanage home and not a baby factory as claimed by the Police.
Our correspondent reports that TenderLife Rescue Initiative is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) of Federal Republic of Nigeria with registration number (CAC/IT/N0 113298).Article 3 of aims and objectives of the CAC documents cited by our reporter states that TRI aims to rescue young girls from abortion and to provide succour for them to deliver their babies safely among others.
Our reporter also cited letter of introduction/collaboration written to National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons(NAPTIP) which was duly acknowledged by the agency. Comrade Dennis argued that how can an organization the Police claims is a baby factory and child trafficking syndicate introduce herself to an agency saddled with responsibility of prohibition of child trafficking. Another paper cited by our reporter shows letter of recommendation by Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare dated 3rd of October,2018 which recommended TenderLife Rescue Initiative to implement services in the Ogoni region of Rivers State under KIISI Trust fund .
