The Vice Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, on Wednesday 26th February, 2020 launched the first phase of allocation of stalls to traders, mainly members of the host community who had shops at the old mini market, which was removed to make way for the construction of the new Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and link road at the area. The University embarked on building a new ultra-modern market at a new site within the community, with water and electricity supply to accommodate the traders who were displaced due to the ongoing construction

VC, addressing the AE-FUNAI Market Traders Association

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied to the event which took place at the Old University Auditorium, Zone A by Director, Physical Planning, Works and Services, Dr. Iheanacho Ezeocha and some top University officers. Prof. Nwajiuba started by thanking AE-FUNAI Market Traders Association, for turning out en masse to witness the exercise which he was particularly present to lead. A total of 29 shop spaces were allocated to some of the market traders, who are mainly engaged in ICT and related businesses. VC directed that shops 1 and 2 be reserved for security personnel to enhance performance in their responsibilities of protecting lives and property in and around the market.

Prof. Nwajiuba asked those traders who were not given spaces at that first phase to exercise patience, as the allocation is o going and would get to every concerned person soon, promising to develop the market in a way it will suit them. He affirmed his earlier pledge to provide regular electricity, water supply and security and also to ensure the environment at the new market is clean enough for conducive atmosphere to carry on their business and advised them to constitute a committee that would work with the University Management to ensure quick and quality delivery.

The Chairman, AE-FUNAI Market Traders Association, Mr. Elom Nelson, commended the Vice- Chancellor, Prof Chinedum Nwajiuba, for his kind gesture and for giving them hope again when they thought all hope were lost after they were displaced from the former location and prayed that Almighty God will protect and guide him.
