Click on this link to view the updated real time tracking of corona virus infection and death rates. Over the past 24 hours alone, Italy has recorded a jump of over 50% in infection rates. The global deaths from the viral infection now stands at 3,057 and the global infection rate is now 89,773.

I hate to be a prophet of doom, but the picture is likely to worsen. And as Africans, rather than believe in the existence of some innate immunity against the virus, it makes more sense to explain the generally low infection level in Africa as a consequence of much lower travels connected through Africa. We can notice the same relatively low infection level in South America.

So far the survival rates observed in different countries appears to have a lot to do with the quality of medical services.

Here in Europe, a few people are gradually giving in to panic buying.
As much as possible, in Nigeria in particular, we should reduce congregating in large assemblies until further notice. We should not wait until tills are so bad to do the needful.

From one problem to another, world is going to an end

It is scary to say the least. But then, the world will survive. There's that thing as the survival of the fittest. For instance, those who have contracted the viral infection and recovered will most likely have developed immunity to it. And they are not likely to have it as such again except they have a situation compromising their immune system. If the infection doesn't die out naturally like most viral infections, then these people who are immune to it are going to be on the right side of evolution very soon.

What continues to scare me is the fate of Africa with our penchant for congregating in large numbers especially in religious houses. Even if the government bans such assemblies, I am sure some human beings will want to show they have faith and flout that.

Let's all be safe.
