As a mark of openness, transparency and accountability to the people of Ekiti State, Governor Kayode Fayemi and the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, have declared their assets.

Governor Fayemi deposed to the Assets Declaration Form for Public Officers at the Registry of the State High Court, Ado-Ekiti, on November 15, 2010 barely a month after assuming power. Fayemi is the first chief executive of the state to have made public his worth in cash and assets.

The assets are what he had acquired in his private capacity as of October 15 when the Court of Appeal, Ilorin, declared him the duly-elected governor of the 14-year-old state. All the assets declared by the Ekiti governor were valued at N750 million.

They include cash in local and foreign banks, buildings, undeveloped property jointly owned with his wife, Bisi, vehicles, business enterprises and household items.

Mrs. Olayinka declared assets worth N1.2 billion including cash in local and foreign banks, buildings, undeveloped property, vehicles, business enterprises and household items.

As of the time Fayemi became governor, the total amount he had in his local and foreign accounts is N27 million, while buildings and undeveloped property he jointly owns with his wife both within and outside Nigeria are valued at N474 million.

They include a compound of three buildings in Ibadan valued at N73 million, a compound of eight buildings at Isan-Ekiti valued at N120 million, a three- bedroom duplex in London valued at 280,000 British pounds and a-four bedroom detached duplex at Atlanta, Georgia, USA worth US$250,000.

Others are a six-bedroom detached house at East Legon, Ghana valued at US$650,000, an undeveloped plot of land at Guzape District in Abuja valued at N30 million, an undeveloped plot of land at Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos valued at N25 million and an undeveloped plot of land at Ambassadorial Enclave, Legon, Ghana valued at US$250,000.

The Ekiti deputy governor has over N12 million in both local and foreign banks at the time she took the oath of office as the state number two citizen.

Buildings belonging to Mrs Olayinka and her husband include a compound of three buildings in Opebi, Lagos valued at N180 million, four bedroom duplex in Victoria Island, Lagos worth N112 million, a compound of two buildings in Ikoyi, Lagos valued at N280 million and an undeveloped plot of land in Ogun State valued at N10 million.

That was i thought when i saw the post earlier on, apart from the constitution barring them from operating accounts outside of nigeria, i think state governor and other lawmakers should be barred from having more than house outside of the state grin

not too practical but it will encourage them to actually develop their state, a state like bayelsea would have the finest roads by now most of their legislators live in abuja

Let's be careful not to malign others without inspecting facts. Fayemi has had a productive and seemingly lucrative career as a consultant, academic and board member home and abroad. One can never vouch for anyone 100% but as someone who knows the UK well I can confirm the money to be made in Prestige and private consultancy. Tony Blair, for example, recently bought a home for his child for £1 million. He was earning around £250,000 as PM. Out of office , and as a consultant plus board member and director, he is earning millions yearly. It is only in Nigeria we fail to develop potentially lucrative sectors due to our myopic and unimaginative focus on oil and politics as ways to a quick fortune.

N750m is approximately £3 million. Even as this sum seems a great deal of money it is not really impossible for this to be legitimately accumulated , and not IGG (ill-gotten gains) , if Fayemi has earned well and invested well. Some of Fayemi's assets , especially Nigerian properties and real estate, may also have gained stupendous value in comparison to what he paid. An Uncle took a loan to buy two plots of land at VGC Lekki circa 1999 for N9 million. The two plots are now worth over N100 million today!!!! Futhermore, Fayemi's UK, USA and Ghana properties may have been purchased with mortgage schemes or loans. Not all Nigerian leaders are thieves. Some are still able to use the intelligence we are reknowned for to make legit money.

No problem my brother . Sometimes we just need a little info to make issues clear. One of my biggest regrets is failing to purchase a plot of land at Ajah for N250,000 (£1000 ) in year 2000. Now shame no go allow me tell you how much that plot is worth today  lipsrsealed I am not saying with certainty that Fayemi's wealth is legit but I am trying to show , for the sake of balance, that it is possible for him to be worth that amount without theft or criminality.

- I was getting worried or wandering who will deliver Nigeria if ACN is equally as corrupt as PDP

Not so at all. The ACN is growing in popularity because ,unlike the PDP , the Party bravely attempts to promote progressive technocrats , with records of achievements, into high office. This can only lead to a better Nigeria. Compare Segun Oni's decrepit CV to that of Fayemi :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olusegun_Oni

This is why I laugh when ignorant folks claim that Ribadu wants to come and loot money. Loot what? On the International market the man can name his price as the consultant of choice on corruption to companies and nations wanting to operate in Nigeria and Africa. His achievement means he is now an extremely lucrative and much sought-after technocrat/expert consultant internationally. It is the PDP that specialise in feeding hungry thieves and semi-illiterate empty barrels and thugs like Alao-Akala with virtually zero record of merit.

No governor will like to invest in this country now. If u ask Chimaroke Nnamani, he will tell you more. Remember Cosmo FM, Capital City Motors, Rainbownet Ltd and many others. All these companies are closed down by EFCC even now. The companies had more than 2000 staff in there pay roll. I salute EFCC for fightung crime, i criticize them for creating unemployment in the country by closing so many companies.

All the same, Let Fayemi and his deputy be true to their word.

Fayemi is worth N750million and not N1.2 billion. Personally, I have no problem with rich and technocratic Nigerians gaining high office. It may not be a bad thing as they may be less inclined to loot funds because of their wealth and the technocratic skills they possess that is always an assurance of earning potentials. After OBJ messed Okonjo-Iweala around she went back to her World bank je-je because she could do so due to her specialist skills. If she is a former hairdresser like Madam Etteh, promoted far above her station by OBJ, she would have no choice but to hang around begging shamelessly. The ACN , IMO, is doing the right thing fielding the likes of Fayemi.

Sounds more like a seed is being planted to steal money. He most likely does not have all that money(yet). N1.2bn is $7,741,935.484. No way.

Read the article properly. Fayemi has N27 million in cash . Everything else is the joint value of Fayemi and his wife's assets mainly from real Estate, vehicles, business enterprises ,etc. Has Fayemi and his wife lied about owning those properties so that they can purchase them in future?

They include cash in local and foreign banks, buildings, undeveloped property jointly owned with his wife, Bisi, vehicles, business enterprises and household items.

Everyone is declaring millions and billions left and right. You ought to ask what the SOURCE of all those billions are. What did Fayemi do before he ran for government? How much was he make each of the years before? Did he pay his taxes? These are questions we are still not asking.

You go see Mr Nobody. The minute he becomes a politicians, he declares he has million millions, and this is a man who does not even own any businesses or big jobs one can point to and say, yes !. You ought to ask how come, not look to say there is no point asking because you think someone else has more.

>>  The total worth of Mr Jonathan’s private residences was N67, 990,000 according to that declaration. The buildings include a four- bedroom duplex in Kpansia, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, valued at N15 million; a four-flat storey building extension of the family house in Yenagoa valued at N10 million and his seven bedroom village home at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, which was bombed days before his inauguration as Vice President, valued at N18 million and a five-bedroom personal residence in Gwarinpa, Abuja valued at N24, 990,000.

>> Under vehicles and household items, Mr Jonathan declared assets worth N41.8 million. They include a BMW car in Abuja valued at N15 million, generators, electronics, air conditioners, furniture, kitchen utensils and others in Kpansia, Yenagoa and Gwarimpa, Abuja valued at N26 million. The car was declared as a gift while the other items were declared to have been procured from savings.

>> Jonathan also declared vacant and undeveloped plots worth N60.538 million. They include five undeveloped plots of land in Bayelsa State, two undeveloped plots of land in Cadastral Zone BO2 and AO6 in Abuja. He disclosed also a yearly income of N62, 072, 200. These comprise investments in stocks in 16 Nigerian blue chip companies managed by City-Code Trust & Investment Company Limited. His investments also cover four 16-seater passenger boats which he hires to companies and other agencies. The Vice President’s total cash in Nigerian banks (Bank PHB, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, UBA and others) is put at N58, 984, 123. He stated that the total income includes personal savings and income from his investments including performing stocks and hiring of the boats.

Nigerians !!!! Haba !!!! When we have passed judgement , especially the ignorant ones in the diaspora , we fail to acknowledge all evidence,  regardless of its relevance, that contradicts the stance we have taken !!!

Some of you would like to convince yourself Fayemi is dishonest . Fine . Blind yourself to reason if you want. He has 27 million in cash and the rest is asset (mainly properties) belonging to him and his wife . Many of us have several homes in the diaspora , on mortgage , worth a great deal of money . Should we then be called criminals by those who do not own properties and are not interested in owning properties? I can attest to the fact that many Nigerians own high value homes in Ghana they purchased with loans !!!!! Because their house in Ghana is worth $500,000 they are automatically thieves? How about the stupendous increase in real estate in Nigeria over the past 10-15 years that have seen land and built property grow greatly in value ? Could Fayemi not have been a beneficiary? Anyone consider that Fayemi might have been a savvy investor with foresight?

If any of you have proof Fayemi gained his assets unsscrupulously then show it . Otherwise we should learn to understand that African technocrats exists who actually know how to utilise the tonnes of legitimate OPP (other peoples money)  available out there. If Fayemi is essentially coming from the private sector and has not held any prominent public office till now then what money are people hinting he stole? Abi n bank robbery una dey hint? It is intellectual lazy to assume every Nigerian that comes to public office rich is a thief or planning to loot . Perhaps some of you simply don't understand the vast amount of legit money to be made in Nigeria with the right connections and business savvy - as obtains everywhere worldwide.
