The proposed regional security outfit, Amotekun through the Yoruba socio cultural organisation, Afenifere has for the umpteenth time call on the Kwara state government to join other Southwest states who are the proponents of the Amotekun initiative.

Amotekun is a security initiative introduced by the Governors of the Southwest to combat the growing insecurity challenges in the region. Kwara shares boundaries with some of the Southwest states.

Recall that Alhaji Lai Mohammed, a few months ago asserted that Kwara is more of a southwest state than the North Central where it currently stands. He made the statement after the Kwara state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had met with his counterparts from other North Central states to discuss the security challenges and proffer solutions to potential dangers.

The Minister believes Kwara shares many things in common with the six Southwest states and the Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba cultural organisation are the latest to add their voice, calling on the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to join the Southwest in their quest to stamp out insecurity in the region.

Unrelenting in his bid the Minister sponsored a meeting of Afenifere with some Kwara stakeholders to discuss modalities on how Kwara can join the Amotekun security initiative which gives credence to his submission a few months ago that Kwara should be part of the initiative.

It remains to be seen if the Governor will yield to the call and join forces with his counterparts from the Southwest or keep fate with the North Central where his state naturally belongs.
