Akwa Ibom State, the highest oil and gas producing State in Nigeria is located in the coastal southern part of the country. With its capital in Uyo, the State covers a land mass of 7,081 square kilometers and was formed in 1987, when it was carved out of Cross River State. Akwa Ibom State have thirty-one Local Government Areas, and the indigenes are predominantly Christians.

Their major dialect, Ibibio, is spoken among the major ethnic groups like; the Ibibio, Annang, Oron, Eket, and Obolo. The State as a population (famously referred to as ‘Akwa Ibomites’) of over five million people and more than ten million in diaspora. It shares boundaries with States like Cross River, Rivers, and Abia. To the south of its border is the Atlantic Ocean, which makes it easily accessible for ship that are coming from different parts of the world to dock at one of the two major sea ports located inside the State.

Apart from being the highest producer of oil and gas in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State is also blessed with a large quantity of other mineral resources like; Limestone, a sedimentary rock consisting largely of calcite and aragonite, used as cement, building stone, glass, abrasives, fillers, and a host of chemical processes; Clay, which is used in manufacturing of paper, ball clay, rubber, fire bricks, floor and wall tiles, construction materials, among others; Lead/Zinc, which is used in batteries, construction, ceramics, ammunition, television tubes; Salt; and traces of Lignite, where about seventy-nine percent (79%) of its coal is used to generate electricity, while 13.5 % is used to generate synthetic natural gas.

Akwa Ibom State can easily be described as a land flowing with milk and honey, because the same way the State has a huge quantity of mineral resources, it’s also the same way it is blessed with farm produce or agricultural resources across the State like; Oil Palm, which can be used for the production of cooking oil, margarine, soaps, cosmetics, livestock feeds, and other products made from the fiber of Palm tree like, glass, helmet, and gloves; Cassava, which is planted across the State is used for production of food, modified starch, alcohol, livestock feeds, and fuel for generation of energy; Maize, used for the production of corn syrup, malt, alcohol, food for animals, among others; Yam; Cocoyam; Rice; Rubber; Plantain and Banana; Seafood in large quantity, used for production of food, animal feeds, and pharmaceutical products. Vegetables are also imbedded in large ton in the State, which are used for food, hydro zed vegetable, pharmaceutical proteins and enzymes.

With these different types of farm produce that are spread across the State, the people of Akwa Ibom State are very creative in using them to cook fantastic delicacies such as; Ekpang Nkwuko (Cocoyam Pottage); Afang Soup, a delicacy made from shredded ‘Afang’ and waterleaves with meat, smoke fish, salt, pepper, crayfish, palm oil, stock fish, and little water; Edesi Isip (Coconut Rice), which is prepared with coconut milk and other ingredients like goat meat and smoked fish; and Asa Iwa (Cassava Porrigde), is prepared with grated cassava, wrapped in tender cocoyam leaves and cooked in palm oil stew.

Some of the tourist destinations in Akwa Ibom State that attracts people from different works of life to the ‘Land of Promise,’ which the beautiful State is also known as, includes: Ibeno Beach, National Museum Uyo, Lord Lugards’s Residence, and The Presbyterian Church, which was built by the famous missionary, Mary Slessor.

The current region of Akwa Ibom in old Calabar Kingdom were the first to encounter western education in Nigeria with the establishment of Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar in 1895, Methodist Boys High School, Oron in 1905, and other top flight schools.

Akwa Ibom State also boasts of superb higher institutions like, University of Uyo; Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron; Akwa Ibom State University, Oruk Anam Local Government Area and Mkpat Enin Local Government Area; Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic; College of Arts and Sciences, Nnung Ukim; and School of Nursing, Uyo, Eket, Oron, Ikot Ekpene and Etinan.

Akwa Ibom people don't have a major language. the Ibibio people speaks Ibibio... other tribes don't speak it, they understand it..

You forgot to add akwa ibom is the source of cheap Olosho all over Nigeria

With nothing to show honestly I wanted to blame FG but then what of state government or even Local government? Anyway hoping for a great future. But that can only happen if they plan well.
