Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

Moja mosa, laa m'akikanju logun. Akikanju to mo'ja, tio mo'sa, afaimo bi o ba ni b'ogun ohun lo. The Yoruba aphorism literally captures the warrior admonition: He who fights and run away, lives to fight another day. Sadly, rather than apply tact, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi opted for the Samurai code of engagement: fight to the death! You kill, or be killed. No retreat, no surrender.

Well, he got dealt a massive blow. The Samurai got whacked real hard. He lost this battle. His adversary held all the aces, and defined the rules of engagement. Ganduje held the sword, while Sanusi had books for defense. It was a mismatch from the get go. The battle is lost, but the war is extant. How everything will eventually pan out, only time will tell.

Lessons learned:
1. If you occupy a position of privilege, but answerable to a higher authority, be full of tact. Measure every step and weigh every utterance aforetime.
2. If you have the courage of your conviction, and using tact will compromise the strength thereof, by all means boldly assert your convictions.
3. If you choose the latter course, earnestly prepare for the consequences.

As the former Emir journeys into the sunset of his reign, may the truth he believes in avail and strengthen him. The Sun may yet shine on him again.
