Tobi Lovv is the first person with a Nigerian parent to serve in the Israeli Defence Force.

In recent past Nigerians or people of Nigeria decent have been making waves in the international community. Such Nigerians, amongst many, that come to mind are Anthony Joshua and Israel Adesanya. But one out of many who has been silently making Nigeria proud is an Israeli-Nigerian lady, Tobi Lovv, in the Israeli Reserves.

Born Oluwatobi Cohen in 1992 to a Jewish Israeli dad and a Christian Nigeria mom in the ancient city of Kano, she grew up in Abuja where she lived and studied at the Nigerian Turkish International College before moving to Israel at 16

At 18 years of age, she joined the Israeli Defence Force, becaming the first person of a Nigerian parent to join the Israeli military.

In an interview posted online by Simon Barrett of the Middle East Report, she noted that her family celebrated both Jewish and Christian festivals which made her enjoy both cultural differences.

Tobi Cohen, who later became Tobi Lovv after she got married to Vadim Lovv, served as an operations sergeant in the war room from 2011-2012 during Operation Pillar of Defense.

In the interview she stated that despite her language barrier and the stress associated to the Israeli military, she overcame due to her determination and hard work.

“Those three years were very intense.

“People think the army is all about physical endurance, but it’s also mental endurance. And people don’t understand that," she added.

Lovv ascertained that joining the Israeli Defence Force, IDF, is not about religion or culture, but about one's love for Israel as the IDF consists of people from varying backgrounds.

Beautiful and very commendable! All isreali citizens once 18 usually undergo military training and thereafter placed on reserve pending when there is war.
