What Ganduje Told Me After Sanusi’s Removal As Kano Emir – Governor Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has reacted to the removal of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Sule said his colleague, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano called him to receive Sanusi.

According to the governor, he was eager to receive the banished Emir following a history of good working relationship with him.

“Yes, we were consulted after he (Sanusi) was removed as Emir. So when they made the decision to remove him, the governor directly called me and said ‘we have just removed the Emir. He said since he has been removed, we have to take him somewhere.

“We have decided to relocate him to Nasarawa. Will you accept him? Who am I not to accept someone like the former Emir of Kano?” he asked.

Speaking further, governor Sule recalled that when he was the Group Managing Director of Dangote, the deposed Emir was the Group Managing Director of First Bank before rising to become Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule speaks on the banishment of ex-Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II in Nasarawa during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on March 16, 2020.
He also noted that when Sanusi emerged as Kano Emir in 2014, the state was his second-largest market for Dangote industries after Lagos State.

Explaining that it would be a great honour to receive him, Sule stressed that he pleaded with Ganduje to decide on the location to host Sanusi.

“The only thing I will plead is that you allow me to select where he will go. I know where he will go is going to be a factor if people don’t understand where he is. And his safety was of utmost importance to me,” he stated.

Governor Sule’s remarks come a week after the Kano State government removed Sanusi, accusing him of insubordination.

Although the dethroned Emir accepted his removal in good fate, he, however, approached a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja seeking an interim order of his immediate release from detention.
