Deltans have been advised to take necessary precaution to curtail the spread of the corona virus in Nigeria but to engage in good personal hygiene.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Chiedu Ebie gave the advice today when he and the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, joined the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye to brief journalist on measures to avoid being a carrier of the virus.

They assured Deltans that the state government had put in place necessary measures to make the state remain free of the coronavirus.

“As a government, we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the public takes the necessary precaution to ensure that Delta State is free of the virus,” the SSG stated.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, stressed the importance of regular hand washing, saying that the state government could not provide sanitizer in people’s home, adding that hand washing remained a veritable means to check the spread of the disease.

“Sanitizer cost money more than water, we should take advantage of the readily available one which is hand washing because it is cheaper and equally available at all times,“ Aniagwu said.

The information commissioner appealed to the journalist to talk to people especially those in the remote areas who might not have access to sanitizer to always wash their hands not only in their home but in their offices and whenever they visit.

He emphasized that the more we wash our hands the more we are able to prevent the possibilities of transmitting the virus to people and also preventing oneself from being a carrier.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Onoye, revealed that Delta State has emerge COVID19 free and encourage the public not to take the part of panic as the Government Will continue to do what it takes to ensure that the State remain free from the virus.

The Health Commissioner stated that Delta State is working in collaboration with the Federal Government and other Institutions to ensure the end of this COVID19 adding that specimen is being sent to Irua the designated centre for the outbreak even as he thanked the medical team who ensured the regular movement of facility around the State.

Speaking during the briefing, Dr Anne Ojimba, Chairman of the State Rapid Response Team, said that Delta State Public Health Emergency Response Centre was on a red alert which means that the state was on the highest measures of preparedness.

“We are trying to do what is called active case detection which means that we are not just sitting to look if any case of COVID19 will show up, but have put things in place so that every health Facility will have people who are looking and checking to see if there is anybody that is suspected,” Ojimba added.

According to her, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) team said Delta State had switched from watch mood to alert mood, adding that the state now had a new mood of data reporting of outbreak where by the Disease Surveillance Officer in LGAs would be able to upload to the national sever any case of epidemic.

He commended the support from the State Governor adding that they are satisfied with the facility on ground adding that as an individual we are responsible for our health not only depending on the Doctor.

They should also make this kind of publicity in the north.. Some of those aboki guys hardly bath or brush their teeth...
