COUNSELING UNIT TAKES-OFF AT CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
The Guidance and Counselling Unit of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state, recently organized a one day seminar for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) and Pre-Degree students at the Centre for Educational Services (CES). This is coming immediately after the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba, for a formal and effective commencement of Guidance and Counselling activities at the centre.

Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Nwudu, addressing the students

The focal person of the Counselling Unit, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Nwudu, while delivering her lecture, titled Good Study Habit, enjoined the students to develop good study plans in order to meet the academic demands of the University and be independent of issues associated with lack of planning. She stressed the need for good study habit that will lead to acquisition of abundant knowledge within a short space of time, emphasizing that students with good study habit can independently pass their examinations and be reliable in future, standing in a position to defend their profession anywhere.

Dr. Nwudu added that regular class attendance, active participation during class work and formation of study groups among others are the tips for academic success.

Speaking on the Topic, Anxiety and Stress Management, the Assistant Registrar/Secretary, Centre for Educational Services, Mr. Ama Omaha, described anxiety as fear of the unknown, a disturbance caused by uncertainty which can lead to health challenges and death. He encouraged the students to do everything they can to extinguish anxiety. Mr Omaha stressed that anxiety and pressure have the tendency of retarding comprehension and retention of knowledge. He enjoined the students to shun bad associations and habits that can lead to poor performance.

Earlier, the Director, Centre for Educational Services, Prof. Dr. Johnny Ogunji congratulated the counselling team for a smooth take-off and expressed satisfaction on the content of the counselling schedule for the semester as presented by the Counselling Unit.
