When I hire a web developer to build a website for me. Do I still have to pay for the domain and hosting separately and set them up or it is the responsibility of the web developer to do that and later hand over control to me. Thanks for your help and answer. God bless. My second question is what is the advantage of buying under a reseller of an hosting website as opposed to directly from the hosting provider? Thanks as you answer. |

The first answer is that, he's supposed to charge for everything. A developer night ask you to purchase your hosting and domain yourself if he noticed you'll under price his service or he just wants you to do it yourself. Your second answer is that you're buying the same service. |

kingme:1. It depends. I'll advice you set it up yourself and manage it... Some developers are heartless and will rip you off with that. 2. Reseller hosting is for those who want to resell, buy hosting directly and not reseller hosting |

kingme:Whether you pay for the hosting or not depends on the contractual agreement you have with the developer. It's it's not carved on stone. If you know how to effectively manage your C Panel or IIS, you can get and manage the hosting yourself. Some providers give free domain names when you purchase from them. I never use a reseller. |

1) it depends on your agreement or what the web developer is offering as a package for you. But in most cases the developer should charge the domain and hosting as part of the developement. 2)Reseller is more like buying from a retailer rather than buying from the distributor kingme: |

Thanks to everyone for graciously answering my questions. I have a last question. Though. In my case the guy charged amount x. When I asked him if it includes domain and hosting. He said no. So it felt strange to me. That is why I asked. I didn't underpriced him though. I then bought the domain He said he was a reseller for the hosting website that he recommended to me and that the advantage of buying the hosting from him as the reseller is that he has a system that monitor for downtime and make sure the website bought under his reseller are always online. Can this be true and possible? If yes, how? Since I paid for the domain and also hosting. The x amount I paid him is just for the development of the website right? |

kingme:The truth: he's lying to you. |

kingme:Domain name registration and hosting is exclusively the responsibility of the programmer. He's supposed to generate income annually from managing those domains. As a client, you do not have a choice. Personally, I do monthly backups for my clients. In summary, web development is not supposed to be a one time job, the programmer should earn steady income from managing and updating the various apps under his care, anything less is an error. |

zerateck:Telling a client he has a software that ensures his client's website stay online all the time. Is he the one hosting the websites. For instance, does he even have an idea what it takes to buy servers and host a website in a country as Nigeria with power problems? Let's be logical with client but that up there is a cheap lie. |

zerateck:Stop this nonsense. Have you hosted a vps before or you also bought it from a company? Even a dedicated server is not guaranteed for 100% uptime. It depends on where you're buying from. |
