Muhammed Lamido Sanusi, the disgraced and deposed emir of Kano emirate is indeed one of the most discussed personality in Nigeria since 9th March when he was dethroned from his exalted office as the Emir of Kano emirate by the Kano state government. According to the government statement, the reason for his dethronement bothered on disrespect to the government and insubordination to the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and other senior officials of the government.

Since his fall from palace to the street his loyalists and social commentators along with their media friends have not ceased to project the fallen emir as a victim of his advocacy for a better northern Nigeria against the northern elitist class and aristocrats. Some others even went as far as projecting him for 2023 Presidential race, designing and sharing campaign posters on social and mainstream media, and adorned him with the robe of a saint. Considering the various attempts to create a messianic status out of the deposed Sanusi, would they also force Nigerians to forget that same character was fingered in corruption by both the Federal Government in 2014 and Kano state government in 2016, 2017 and 2019?

During his time as Governor of Central Bank, an agency of the federal government known as the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria indicted Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (as at then known) for offences that bothers on fraud, wastefulness, nonchallance, abuse of due process and deliberate efforts to change facts in February 2014 in their preliminary investigation on the then CBN Governor.

Specifically, Lamido Sanusi was accused of ignoring transparency and disregarding Section 15 (1)(a) of the Public Procurement Act in the procurement of goods and services worth over ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY BILLION NAIRA. Sanusi was fingered in executing over 63 projects as at time of indictment in February 2014. This offence alone has sent some government functionaries to jail. In fact, Rev Jolly Nyame, the former governor of Taraba state wwas convicted and jailed for similar offence.

Sanusi was also indicted to have ignored International Financial Reporting Standards (IFFS) to prepare financial statement from 2012 to 2014, whereas commercial banks and other financial institutions under his supervision were in compliance.

He breached a Memorandum of Understanding entered between Central Bank and other Deposit Money Banks on Banking Resolution Sinking Fund. He refused to inaugurate Board of Trustees to mange the fund but was utilising and expending the funds for certain operations without approval from the BoT between 2010 and 2014.

Sanusi breached section 34 (b) of the CBN Act 2007 when he acquired 7% shares valued at N0.743 billion from International Islamic Management Corporation (Malaysia) without notifying the President nor approval of the CBN board.

Sanusi also claimed to have expended N1.084 billion naira in 2011 and N3.086 billion in 2012 on “promotional activities” even when CBN is not in competition with anybody. RIDICULOUS RIGHT?

Furthermore, Sanusi claimed to have spent a whopping N2.2 billion on "legal and professional" fees in 2012 alone, which is beyond every sense of reasoning.

Sanusi further claimed to have spent a whopping N1.257 billion to "feed" his policemen and private guards in 2012 alone.

While the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting. Company Limited (NSPMC) posted a turnover of N29.370bn for all its transactions with all clients (including the CBN) in 2011, Sanusi claimed to have paid the company N38.233 billion; this defies all sense of reasoning.

Sanusi claimed to have spent N7.034bn in 2012 and N5.751bn in 2011 for "facility management".

Furthermore, Sanusi claimed to have expended a whopping N7.65 billion and N9.24 billion for Training and travel expenses in 2011 and 2012 respectively, among other alleged infractions.

Summary of it is that Sanusi was indicted for perpetrating fraud.

When Sanusi was invited to explain these infractions and indictments, he shied away from defending himself. Instead, he ran to Federal High Court in Lagos and got injunction against the Financial Reporting Council and federal government from investigating him.

The order was given by Justice John Tshoho (who incidentally is the current Chief Judge of the Federal High Court). In fact, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, the current Vice President of Nigeria was the lawyer to Sanusi that helped him got the court injunction. The injunction halted further investigation against Sanusi and shielded him from facing justice.

Sanusi was suspended from office as CBN Governor by President Goodluck Jonathan based on the indictments and after the Financial Reporting Council recommended his suspension NOT because of any whistle blowing of missing $20 billion.

Sanusi succeeded in evaded justice and was adorned with the robe of emir by then Kano state Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Indicted For Fraud By Kano State Government

On 3rd June 2019, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), indicted Emir Sanusi for various corrupt and fraudulent practices against the emirate to the tune of N3.4 billion. The agancy accused the Emir of expending over N1.4 billion without appropriation and anther unappropriated N500 million on personal expenses.

The anti corruption agency not only indicted the emir but went further to recommend to the Kano state government that he be suspended as Emir of the emirate.

Instead of Sanusi to present himself for further investigation (if he was indeed innocent), he ran to a Federal High Court in Kano to stop the anti corruption agency from investigating him because he wasn't given "fair hearing".

Similarly, on 5th March, the same anti corruption agency indicted Sanusi in a N2.2 billion land scam in the Kano emirate. Sanusi was indicted in illegally selling several hectares of land in Darmanawa Phase I and II and Bubbugaji within the Kano emirate. In fact, according to the indictment sheet, some of the proceeds paid to the Emirates account was traced to companies where Sanusi has interests.

Although the commission invited Sanusi to explain his role, Sanusi rebuffed the invitation. Instead, he ran to Federal High Court in Kano to stop the agency from investigating him any further. He further asked the court to refrain the anti corruption commission and Kano state government from investigating him as if he enjoys immunity from being investigated.

Garbed On Saintly Robe With Messianic Figure...

Ideally, a man like Sanusi should be docked and facing trials for all the numerous corruption indictments against him by the federal government and Kano state government. But same man is being garbed with the robe of a saint and packaged as a Messiah by his supporters and the media.

May God deliver Nigeria from the deception of every royal craftinesses parading as royal highnesses.

Well I used to be a great fan of this guy but the Buhari experience has taught me to be wary of idealism in any form.

The former emir is gradually being touted as the next great fula hope for Nigeria, and we need to keep him away from Aso Rock otherwise he will complete Buhari's evil agenda and also run the nation bankrupt while he's at it.

Say NO to the Fulanisation of Nigeria!

Disgraced Fmr Emir Sanusi is a big time fraud. How media suddenly forget how this man mischievously destroyed southern banks like Intercontinental, Oceanic, etc among other of his atrocities, to sing his praises is a thing of a surprise to me.

There's no difference between Sanusi and Buhari except the fact that he's more educated and enlightened. No one can deceive me now

If Sanusi becomes president the wasteful spending will be worse than what was obtained during the IBB and Gowon eras combined.

Sanusi is a wasteful thief and hypocrite jihadist.

I don't think alot of people knew this details since his media rich friends have been forcing his failed presidency bid on us.

Funny enough this presidency script is usually played by those in deep poop who want to divert attention from facts

-This is a classic example of the saying: “If someone has a brain, the atrocities he will commit will make the devil’s activities seem childlike”.

There is no way this fraud can be president. Buhari experience can never be forgotten
