Scam Alert: Group disowns Yemi Osinbajo Grant, says it has nothing to do with the Vice President


The Friends of Prof Osinbajo have distanced themselves and the Vice President from a scam website that is currently circulating on social media, calling on citizens to apply for a N1m grant sponsored by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The website, www.yemiosinbajogrant.ngoafrica.org, was designed to con unsuspecting members of the public of their personal information by the scammers.

According to observers, the information collected by the scammers can be used to access mobile phones, WhatsApp groups, bank details, etc and that it why it has become pertinent for them to call out the scammers.

It would be recalled that the Friends of Prof Osinbajo had offered N1 million to small business owners as part of the celebration of the 63rd birthday celebration of the Vice President.

In a flyer shared on social media, the group wrote, “Small business owners are invited to apply for a one-off, small business grant to celebrate the birthday of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

“To enter this competition, in no more than one page, write a proposal on how N1 million will improve your business. The following terms and conditions apply. Entrants must reside in Nigeria; must be aged between 18 to 35 years and business must be a Nigerian brand.

The group noted that the competition closed by 11:59 pm on 3 March 2020.

Long after the competition closed, these scammers have continued using the avenue to phish Nigerians many of whom have fallen for it. We hereby enjoin all Nigerians to be careful as to doling out their personal information to suspicious websites.

Any site that throws up a link saying you must forward to your WhatsApp contacts and groups before you can proceed is a very criminal scam!

We all know from the onset that scammers designed it to have access to individual account and not in any way connected to VP anymore
