...drags 46 erstwhile consultants to court

The Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has began a process to recover over One Hundred Million Naira owed the service in unremitted funds by erstwhile tax agents.



The process which was approved by the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice on 27th November, 2019, is led by the office of the Legal Adviser to the Board, Barr. George Usongo, has initiated the litigation course of action which will see to the litigation of forty six companies who have refused to remit returns agreed upon with BIRS in their respective contracts.

This litigation is premised on the refusal of 46 companies who were previously contracted by BIRS to receive various taxes on its behalf, to remit a total sum of 121,485,000.00 even on termination of the said contracts.

It is worthy to note that on the assumption of duty of the current Executive Chairman, Mr. Andrew Ayabam, he issued a marching order demanding that all monies owed by such consultants be paid up within a specified period of two weeks, to which there was compliance save for 46 who have refused to pay up till date.

Meanwhile the Benue Internal Revenue Service has reiterated its resolve to ensure all tax leakages as well as revenues accruable to the state is accounted for.
