Hello everyone,

The global pandemic has got everyone in panic and for this cause a lot of changes are happening in so many aspects of life, the social and entertainment calendar has been disrupted to a great degree, the sports calendar is almost cancelled, and the academic calendar in most places have been put on hold.

The fear of being infected or aiding the virus to spread has led to people self isolating, and these social distancing practice has led to a wide range of disruption of events, here are some events being put on hold.

Movie Premieres

For many, it came as a shock to hear that the latest James Bond premiere was called off because of the coronavirus outbreak. But the Bond announcement was just the first in a cascade of movie blockbusters being canceled or postponed.

As gatherings of large groups of people are called off, movie theaters and film festivals are closing around the world. That's affected the planned release of new films from March all the way up to July, including Wonder Woman 1984 which was to be released on June 5th, Marvel's Black Widow which was originally scheduled for May 1st, James Bond thriller No Time to Die, Mulan, F9 and A Quiet Place Part 2, these are just to name a few.

Sporting Events
The 2020 Summer Olympics
The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo have been postponed until 2021 following weeks of speculation over whether the games would go ahead as scheduled amid the coronavirus pandemic. After International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach agreed to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s one-year postponement proposal, the IOC announced on March 24 that the games will be held no later than next summer but will still be called the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It is to note that this is the first time in the 124-year history of the modern Olympics that the games have been postponed. They were canceled entirely in 1916 and then in both 1940 and 1944 due to World War I and World War II, respectively.

French Open
The clay-court Grand Slam tournament has been postponed from May 24, and is now set to take place from Sept. 20 to Oct. 4 the French Tennis Federation announced.

NBA
The NBA became the first major sports league in the U.S. to suspend the playing season after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19; Gobert’s teammate Donovan Mitchell also tested positive for the virus.

“The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice,” the league said in a statement on March 12. “The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

UEFA
In a statement, the UEFA announced that it has postponed all Champions League and Europa League club competition matches through next week.

“In the light of developments due to the spread of Covid-19 in Europe and related decisions made by different governments, all UEFA club competitions matches scheduled next week are postponed,” the European governing body said in the statement.

The quarter-final draws for the Champions League and Europa League, which were scheduled for March 20, have also been postponed.

FA
The English Premier League, English Football League and Women’s Super League has suspended all matches until at least the weekend of April 3-5 after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for COVID-19 . Games set for those dates will reportedly be subject to “conditions at the time.”
“The Premier League, FA, EFL and WSL have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England,” the Premier League said in a statement.

Entertainment Events
The 2020 Billboard Music Awards
The Billboard Music Awards, originally scheduled for April 29, will be rescheduled for a later date, according to a March 17 tweet from the broadcast.

Global fashion weeks
Fashion weeks in Beijing, Shanghai, and Tokyo, set to take place mid- to late-March, were postponed due to coronavirus. Meanwhile, numerous Chinese fashion brands have pulled out of fashion weeks in Paris and Milan. The French luxury group LVMH canceled a cocktail reception and award ceremony set to take place during Paris Fashion Week.

Mobile Trade shows / Launches
Mobile World Congress
Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s biggest mobile phone trade show, was set to take place in Barcelona between Feb. 24 and 27. The high-profile annual event attracts some of the world’s most prominent tech and telecommunications companies. Earlier this month, organizers announced it would be canceled because of Covid-19.

Phone Launches
Certain smartphones companies already launched devices this year, examples include the Samsung galaxy A51, honor X9 released in Januarry and the Camon 15 and 15 pro launched in India, some may delay launches due to the current situation though there are speculations of other devices likely to be launched as the year runs, one includes the rumored partnership of Sony and TECNO mobile to release a new high mega pixel smartphone in the Camon series.

Religious pilgrimages in Saudi Arabia
The Saudi government announced it is temporarily banning foreign pilgrims from entering the country, which is home to the Muslim holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The Dalai Lama’s engagements
The Buddhist spiritual leader announced he would postpone an ordination ceremony for new monks and cancel all his public duties until further notice.

Ban on Open Worship
Barely two hours after the Federal Government imposed a travel ban on 13 high-risk coronavirus infested countries, the House of Representatives has also mandated it to ban open worship and other public gatherings until further notice. The House also directed the airport authorities across the country to put in place mechanisms to discourage crowd gatherings.

NYSC, Schools, Regular and Personal Events
Due to necessary measures to curb and control this pandemic, many schools have been shut down and are forced to cancel or postpone any events previously planned. the NYSC abruptly ended activities at orientation camps across the country. The Batch A orientation camps for graduates started on March 10, and was supposed to last for 21 days. Corps members in the camps were, however, shocked when they were told in the middle of the night that the camps had closed and they were all to receive their letters to places of primary assignment.



Other events may include planned weddings, graduations, convocations and certain meetings that have been forcefully cancelled or postponed due to this pandemic, these are just a few so i would like to know how this pandemic has affected your events personally.
