Three days ago, BBC reported the first COVID-19 recovery case in Ghana, the news has brought a big relief to the whole country and a sign that the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have the capacity and manpower to fight the deadly disease that has brought the world to a stop.

To support the health workers who are the front line in the battle against Coronavirus, Allianz Ghana through their LinkedIn page announced a one year free Life Insurance cover for 112 doctors and 620 nurses who are the staff of 37 Military Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

The Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Life Ghana, Gideon Ataraire presented the policy documents to the hospital. The cover is believed to be a total of GHS8.44 million.

The 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Ghana is an ongoing viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a novel infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first two cases of COVID-19 in Ghana during the 2019–20 worldwide pandemic was confirmed on 12 March 2020, when two people returned from Norway and Turkey.

According to GhanaHealthService official website, a total of 2,519 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in Ghana. Among the tested, 1,276 (50.7%) were persons under mandatory quarantine with 1,243 (49.3%) from routine surveillance activities. Among all 2,519 persons tested, one hundred and forty-one (141) tested positive representing 5.6%.
