After much dillydallying over the appointment of assistant coaches for the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation yesterday, finally gave approval for the appointment of three coaches to backup Coach Samson Siasia in his onerous task of tinkering the national team to greater heights.

Since his appointment and subsequent unveiling in Abuja, Siasia, had been locked in a battle of wits with NFF over the identities of those who would form his backroom staff, with the former insisting that he be allowed to pick his assistants while the FA argued that since they are the payers, that they must have input in the process.

But the FA yesterday named Salisu Yusuf of Kano Pillars and Ike Shorounmu as the duo who would assist the Bayelsa born tactician alongside Simon Kalika.
While Kalika, who is a long-time ally of Siasia has been named the first assistant coach, Yusuf is to be the second assistant coach while Shorummu makes a return to the Eagles coaching job as the goalkeeper trainer.

Shorunmu is making his third stint as Eagles goalkeeper trainer while Kalika is securing his third assistant coaching job with a national team, after first being in the backroom staff of the Flying Eagles at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2005, followed by another stint with the Olympic team of 2008

Salisu Yusuf led Pillars to a 2nd place finish in the league last season and was amongst Siasia's coaching crew to Egypt. Ike Shorunmu, ex eagles goalkeeper. Not bad IMO
