Many city residents have been seeking greener, and safer, pastures amid the coronavirus pandemic — but rather than welcoming them, locals have showered them with hostility for possibly bringing the illness along, according to the Guardian.

Rensselaer County Executive Steven McLaughlin told the news outlet that “many, many, many” people have recently arrived.

“They’re coming up and they’re occupying hotel rooms, Airbnbs, that type of thing,” said McLaughlin, adding that his county had 51 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday — “seven at least that are direct from New York City.”

Last week, he appealed to Gov. Andrew Cuomo to ban all non-essential travel from Gotham to upstate.

When the governor declined, McLaughlin issued a public health order that anyone arriving from the coronavirus-ravaged city must contact local officials immediately and be subject to a 14-day quarantine.
