Nigeria's State Of Insecurity: Jonathan Unable To Visit Bayelsa
Posted: December 30, 2010 - 23:44

By SaharaReporters, New York
Mr. Goodluck Jonathan today became a victim of the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria as he stayed away from an official event in his home state of Bayelsa. Mr. Jonathan’s inability to visit Bayelsa followed yesterday’s bomb blast that rocked a political rally in the Opolo area of Yenogoa, the state capital.

Two sources close to Jonathan said he could not attend the official opening of the Law School and the Judicial Complex in Yenogoa as planned. As the invited dignitaries were seated waiting for Mr. Jonathan, word came that he had cancelled his appearance on account of security reasons.

Rather than visit Bayelsa, where he served as governor until 2007, Mr. Jonathan spent the night in the more secure and relatively safer city of Port Harcourt. He is scheduled to leave Port Harcourt tomorrow for a foreign trip.

Nigeria has been gripped by widespread violence in the last week. A diplomatic source in Abuja said the violence, which has enveloped four of the country’s geopolitical six zones in heightened terror, had political, religious and criminal dimensions.

“Nigeria's internal crisis will make it a daunting, if not impossible, task to deploy ECOWAS troops in Cote D'Ivoire,” said an EU source, adding that Nigeria military was involved in crime fighting and internal peace keeping operations in as many as 21 of Nigeria’s 36 states.

Beaf:

Jonathan was never scheduled to visit Bayelsa. Lies, lies, lies.

it is inconsequential  -whether he had a planned visited or not  -but really it is shame to have chaos in 21 states of the country. I am thinking this issue is too much for GEJ to bear. why not just resign as he has dully expressed to the U.S envoy that he lacks the mantle to revive this nation.

It is clearly looking obvious as predicted by the CIA come 2015 Nigeria will be no more.

I am not surprised that the truth is inconsequential to you. Fact is, the vast majority value truth and those who are truthful.

@blacksta or whatever u call urself if Nigeria collapses as u and ur cohorts are saying and it leads to a civil war even if u re not around it will surely affect ur family here, pls pray for peace at dis time of the year instead of shouting terror all d time, cant u people wish dis nation well at all, remb. D civil war lets not pray for such like dat again, didnt Ojukwu escape at d end of d civil war meanwhile ordinary people suffered and died lost properties and investments all over d country while he came back and reclaimed all his properties, war/conflict does not make a nation progress whether we like it or not it is d odinary people dat will suffer remb.GEJ or Atiku can easily fly to safety with their families and be less concerned about wat happens here, a word is enough for d wise.

Do you have the President's itenary ? Are you Ima Niboro? Because what is written below would suggest that Jonathan was officially scheduled to open the Law School and a Judicial Complex in Bayelsa.

The security situation in the country is simply terrible, granted that it wasn't GEJ's fault but to those whom much is given, much is expected.
GEJ should deploy every security / military apparatus at his disposal to ensure peace even if it means withdrawing from peacekeeping operations.

Why are you rounding on Blacksta? Is it not obvious that the guy is blaming a potential future disintegration of Nigeria on incompetent leaders who selfishly fail to move aside and make way for those who can rescue the situation? Did GEJ not confess he is not the best man for the job? Why does he not do what is best for his nation ?
Nobody wants chaos but we are not children . We have to consider that possibility if wanton misrule continues . We have already had Yar Adua mess us around for three years . How much longer will we survive under successive accidental leaders promoted into power by men like OBJ and Anenih who are only ever interested in their own relevance?

You should have known by now that Beaf/Faeb is the chief spokesperson for GEJ on NL. Hence he know what's happening even in GEJ's bedroom.
The simple truth is that GEJ will sink the boat, as he's promised, if not allowed to become PDP's flag bearer in the coming elections. Today, thanks to GEJ's leadership, Nigeria is witnessing the a continuous increase in the rate of insecurity in the country's history.

Why are you people defending GEJ? What has he done about the security of this nation since he was placed in a position he couldn't handle?
