The American Military is considered as the greatest fighting machine ever built. This is not only due to their level of sophistication and use of highly advanced technology in their warcraft, but it boils down to the very essence of American militarism. America is the only nation on earth with a truly voluntary army. Young teenage boys join the Marines because it offers them adventure, travel and the chance to ''blow sh!t up''. Unlike Nigeria, your average grunt chose the army as a source of employment. Those grunts threatening the good people of Warri with rape and HIV transmission were nobody 2-3yrs ago. The army not only provided a means of livelihood but also an identity and status.

The Nigerian Military is one of very few sovereign armies never to have been engaged in an actual conflict with an outside Nation or external force. The Nigerian Military was designed by the British to curb insurrection against Colonial rule and to maintain the franchise known as Nigeria. The civil war was what the Nigerian Army was designed to do. The closest Nigerian Army has ever gotten to an actual conflict with another Nation was in the 80's. Nigeria was forced to back down after the French vowed to assist Cameroun with all their might. Boko Haram is a nightmare to the Nigerian Army establishment because the myth surrounding the Nigerian Soja has been debunked by a bunch of apprenticed soldiers drawn from the dredges of northern society. The Mai ruwas, Mai suyas and Mai shais and the likes are who make up the bulk of BH. If these civilians can transform themselves to a fighting machine and wage a war of insurrection against the Nigerian state for 10 years and counting that should tell you of how incompetent the Nigerian Army is. Consider also how many theater commanders and COAS has Shekau outlived then you will understand that our military is in dire need of a major overhauling.

Those Sojas threatening Warri people know that the only thing they have is the myth of invincibility. Take that away from them and the entire Nigeria will be one big Sambisa forest. Of what gain is it to them when their only moral booster (instilling fear on civilians) and perk benefit of being a Soja is gone.

Because we give them so much undeserved respect. Comedians and actors give them too much respect because of their easy script to write. Where I live, if you see the military uniform on the road they are coming from schools or raising awareness. You don't see them outside official hours on uniform you will never know they are in the military and they are professional at all times.
