We know if crude oil rise to the normal $60 per barrel, cost of PMS(petrol) may rise up to #200 per liter. My headache is some people may sit down at one corner and embezzle the funds and we will have nothing to show for it and if at all, they will use part of it to develop northern state infrastructure alone. NNPC bigwigs are the ones that doesn't want refineries to work because they are feeding large from refining our crude oil elsewhere. Also please how many Kyaris do we have in political appointed offices in this Buhari govt.? 1 Like |

Subsea: Just as the dim witted “progressives” poopooed Jonathan’s fuel subsidy removal and deregulation of the downstream market. Imagine how cheap we would be buying fuel now if they had not sabotaged that economic policy. APC people, how far 4 Likes |

ruggedtimi: It was working and is still working with barrels of crude allocated valued at billions of dollars. Refineries receive N80.74bn crude oil despite being dormant Buhari and APC have looted our country finish. Totally and completely finished. |

1.So long as government is setting the price, there is a subsidy. Unless they are courageous to stop setting the price, the subsidy will still be there 2.The refineries can only work if NNPC itself is privatized and subsidies are gone for good. 1 Like |

Macphenson: seguno2: The reason why APC has kept up the subsidy scam is because quite simply, Nigerians prefer subsidy...even with all the scams ....because it guarantees low oil prices. In my opinion, in 2012, APC just jumped on the bandwagon to stay in people's good graces, and get elected in 2015 (politics is a dirty game after all)...but the fact is, most Nigerians don't want subsidy removal....despite its proven benefit for the economy, because in the intial stage it means high prices for fuel....and by extension high prices for everything including food. Even when Bubu did a partial removal of subsidy in 2016...it was because 1) oil prices were very low, and there was no funds to pay for subsides 2)the government then inherited debts in subsidy claims to marketers dating from 2013 (something which I suspect GEJ's economic advisers saw, which was why they wanted subsidy gone)..so the prices rose in part so that marketers could pay themselves....3) then the government in 2017 became the sole importer of fuel...putting pressure on NNPC earnings...because NNPC now pays for importing fuel, and subsidy (the whole thing is so darn distorted). We can look back to 2012...and say that the APC erred in removing subsidy, (and they did, very well) but the fact is, most Nigerians did not want it gone then, and even now, they don't want it gone now. That's why the Buhari government is closing borders and keeping price controls...they don't want the revolution that would happen when Nigerians have to pay N300 for a liter of fuel if the marketers take control. And quite frankly if GEJ had removed subsides completely in 2012...(because what he did was partial removal..he still controlled the prices) by now we might have been enjoying lower prices, and more jobs and investment, and GEJ would have lost in 2015 by a bigger margin because Nigerians are angry that they had to pay N200 for fuel by 2013. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Also speaking on a Channels TV breakfast talk show, Sunrise Daily, earlier in the day, the NNPC’s helmsman said the decision to finally end the fuel subsidy regime is in the interest of ordinary Nigerians as it would free up funds for the various tiers of government to develop basic infrastructure in the education, health, transport, and other sectors for their benefit. So where did the money to buy all those 2020 Camrys come from? 1 Like |
