Governors in the 36 states of Nigeria have been commended over the relative successes so far in containing the spread of COVID-19 across the length and breadth of the Federation.

The commendation is coming from the stable of Governors Mandate, an integrated media network which provides support and consultancy services to Nigeria Governors.

In a release by its Chairman, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, the Network praised the governors for their efforts so far in ensuring that the pandemic does not spread as initially feared.

Onaiwu particularly praised some of the governors for being proactive enough to order restriction of movement, banning of mass gatherings and swift establishment of treatment and isolation centres in their states prior to the Federal Government's lockdown order.

He noted that such brave moves is what has saved the nation from the geometric spread of the virus as against what obtains in other climes.

"That the spread of the pandemic is contained to just 17 states of the federation and FCT with 72% of the confirmed cases limited to Lagos and Abuja is a testament to the quick thinking of our governors," Mr. Onaiwu said in the release.

The Governors Mandate boss further stated that some of the governors (who got infected with COVID-19 in the line of duty) have also demonstrated personally that the pandemic can be quickly defeated if citizens abide by established protocols.

Onaiwu especially thanked the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna and Rivers for ensuring that the sit-at-home orders in the respective states are not flouted urging them not to compromise no matter whose ox is gored.

He stated that it is better to err on the side of caution and encouraged all residents to cooperate fully with the governors as the plague will soon be totally banished from our land.
