Replacing Fuel Pump Assy On My Kawasaki Ninja 650 by GAZZUZZ(m): 8:00pm On Apr 12, 2020 |
I have been having loss of power and delayed starts on my motor bike , I initially took out the fuel pump assy and clean out the strainer filter which made it improve a little, but I still was not getting power on demand and the delayed starts were becoming embarrassing. So I went on eBay and selected a brand new fuel pump, and a used complete fuel pump assy. Added a few other Kawasaki parts and sent the links to https://www.nairaland.com/selfmadeolx . I made payment in naira and 8days later parts arrived. I have been lazy about installing the pump since the lockdown started , but today I was courageous, I informed my sidekick/camera man (Gaz jr) we would be going to fix the bike he was excited he would be leaving the house finally . Here's how it went. 1 Like

Armed with an empty 30ltr Jerry can, a toolbox, off we went. First thing first, start the bike to be sure it's still working

I had a full tank last time I parked it, it usually takes about 15liters of fuel which normally covers about 140/160miles riding in town. So I was able to drain off about 12liters, got my mouth sanitized while doing it 4 Likes 1 Share

didn't get all the fuel out, but it was enough. Next take out the seat and unscrew the tank. 3 Likes 1 Share

There are two plastic accessories left and right of the tank that should be removed, they are held down by a star screw. The tank is held down by two 10mm bolts 1 Like 1 Share

Removing main fuel line and harness. Prop the tank up a bit to see the fuel supply line You would need a flat head screw driver to prop the red part loose. Same flat head screw driver is required to unhook the fuel assy harness On the left side 1 Like 1 Share

Tank is free and all we have to do is pull back. I should mention at this point , the bike is naturally aspirated fuel injection, and the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, normal pressure values expected at fuel rail is about 3.5bar.

The fuel tank is air tight , and this bike works with all the conventional systems obtainable on a regular gasoline engine. It has the MAP system with the 5v principle , the throttle position sensor , the intake air control valve 12v pulse injectors, ignition coils , even has a socket for an oxygen sensor but seems the feature was not enabled in the version. 1 Like 1 Share

Fuel pump assy out, there was a thread I created about Nigerian fuel, explains why we replace pumps on vehicles with young mileages. This bike is barely 12,000miles https://www.nairaland.com/4662306/fuel-pumps-nigeria 1 Like 1 Share
