Recently, I discovered that if one can cast fear away even in the midst of difficult situation we can achieve great things. This is the reason for this post, "There is Opportunity in Every Crisis." The word ‘crisis’ comes of Greek origin - ‘decision,’ and the word ‘decision’ comes to us from the Latin meaning ‘to cut or sever.’ To decide means to choose, and once you choose, it means you have cut off all other options.


According to Oxford Advnced Learner's Dictionary, 'crisis' means "a time of great danger, difficulty or confusion when problem must be solved or important discision must be made." Opportunity is always present in the midst of crisis. How does opportunity link to crisis?


The word ‘opportunity’ means a combination of circumstances favourable for a purpose; set time or a good chance to advance or occasion as to advance oneself. The Eagle is a perfect example, When a storm is coming its way, the eagle will rise to meet it and will use the power of the winds to soar above the storm, where it finds calm and peace. Like the eagle, we need to rise to meet our crises.

The Chinese word for crisis carries two elements, danger and opportunity. No matter the difficulties of the circumstances.


No wonder, Albert Einstein said, “in the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity.” There is no question that we are in the midst of a Pandermic crisis. So where are the opportunities?


This crisis is astonishing us when we see how efficient the "global fear" is to global bankruptcy in order to mobilize an enormous amount of resources and political efforts; there are so many millions (or billions?) mobilized, that we cannot but compare them to the thin quantities allocated to the urgent policies, wherever they may be, to fight against the poverty that threatens millions in the planet and achieve the humble Millennium Objectives.



As you know, Poverty produces fear, global fear, but the poor are used to it; their crisis is the usual one, a "silent tsunami" to which we are used to. And the solidarity reactions are so slow...



Let us be positive. Let us dream that this Corona virus crisis will enable us to open our eyes to see the opportunity that lies therein. Let us dream that it will have opened many eyes to the needs of the people and responsibility in the behaviour of world economy.



Even, in on-going pandemic that have engulfed the World, there are some bold, courageous individuals who despite the fact that fear of the unknown has made many persons to chicken out to avoid lost. There is an opportunity in every crisis and the deeper the crisis, the better the opportunity can be. But some people are not capable of seeing it.



This crisis of gigantic proportions seen by some as the "Corona virus also called COVID-19" should help us at least to see better, to see more clearly; to decentralize our look from our individual or national problems; to have a global look; to realize that our local crises (for example the dangerously growing unemployment) cannot be fully understood if we do not place them in an international perspective.



For the first time ever, seen the entire World fighting a common cause to overcome the deadly COVID-19.
