COVID-19: Isoko North political leaders donate food items to Delta communities

In a bid to cushion the effect of the lockdown against COVID-19 pandemic, the Isoko North political leaders on Monday donated food items to the less privileged in the local government area.

The leaders said they were moved by the acute hunger in the land caused by the overwhelming nature of the pandemic.

Items donated include 170 bags of rice; 91 bags of beans; 130 bags of garri; 260 cartons of Indomie and 65 bags of salt.

Speaking during the presentation, Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Tim Owhefere said the leaders in the local government came together to provide the palliatives for the people because they have always had their interest at heart.

"As your representatives, we feel your pains in these trying times hence we came together to provide these palliatives which will go a long way in cushioning the effect of the stay-at-home order by the government.

"Let us continue to cooperate with government to ensure that we kick out the COVID-19 out of our state and Nigeria.

“Corona Virus is real, and considering the way it is taking over the world, we cannot leave it for government alone, all hands must be on deck, we have to task ourselves to support our brothers and sisters in various communities across the local government.

"What we are doing today is on behalf of the Isoko North political class under the leadership of Rt Hon. Leo Ogor. All of us contributed to this with support from Senator James Manager.

"We brought this as a token because our people are lockedown at home. When we are sharing things normally we do it through our Ward Chairmen but as you can see today, we have not taken that route because we believe that these are not times for politics.

"Please as you go back to your communities let the impact go down to those who need them no matter how small. The way you go about distributing these things will go a long way in encouraging us to do more." he added

Also reacting to the gesture, President-General of Isoķo Development Union (IDU), Chief Iduh Amadhe applauded the gesture adding that Isoko people were grateful for the donation especially in this trying times.

"I greet our sons in government for their good leadership and cooperation. I thank them for not making it political because we eat hunger does not recognise political parties.

"Let me urge our President-Generals to carry out more enlightenment campaign on social distancing, regular handwashing among other practices aimed at curbing the spread of the virus."

Earlier in a welcome address, Chairman of the Committee, Bishop Benson Eghaire thanked the leaders for the donation and urged the President-Generals to ensure that the items gets to the needy in their various communities.

Responding on behalf of the President-Generals, President-General of Ofagbe kingdom, Hon. Matthew Akpofa appreciated the leaders for the gesture, assuring that they will do justice to the distribution as recommended.

There's difference between isoko communities and Delta communities, if you are talking about isoko communities you are talking about where isoko people lives but if you are talking about Delta communities it means all delta communities including ogwashi ukwu. As for me using I still remain Ada ogwashi all the time, if sarz on the beat use it in all his music productions then who are my not to use my own.
