Lockdown is Not Necessarily the Cause of Armed Robberies and Violence in Lagos and Ogun Communities

The unrest in Ogun and Lagos communities that has sparked various outcries on various media outlets and social media platforms has been attributed to the lockdown initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari. The lockdown which was initiated by the Federal government was a calculated move to adequately tackle and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in Nigeria.

However residents of ifo, Sango, ifako, ijaiye, Ota and some parts of Lagos have been having sleepless nights and trouble filled days as criminal elements have seized the lockdown order to violently Rob, rape and beat up citizen of the aforementioned communities.

The police had swung into action and rounded up about 150 suspects with links to the criminal activities but yet the crimes have refused to stop. In a bid to protect themselves, residents of these communities have taken up arms to guard and protect themselves from these criminals and this has resulted into series of lynching and brutal beating by angry mobs.

While many people blame this spike in criminal activities on the lockdown and breakdown of many economic activities with some others claiming that these armed robberies were inspired by the hardship and hunger endured by these criminals, we can outrightly say that is not the case. This criminals and armed robbery suspects are supposed hoodlums who have familiar knowledge of their target communities. These group of individuals have beforehand been carrying out various forms of criminal activities in a discreet manner unknown to the larger public. Many of these individuals are local pickpockets and bag snatchers of a regularly crowded places, bus parks, markets and other public places.

The lockdown has deprived them of their regular soft targets and preys which has resulted in the accumulations of dangerous weapons and enough boldness to visit homes and violently Rob harmless citizens. It is also very obvious that these armed robbers did not expect the kind of reaction and fight back they have gotten from their target communities.

The lockdown is a safety measure initiated by the government to protect the civilian populace but instead this criminal elements have turned it into a dangerous tool used in exploiting harmless civilians. Although they have gotten more than bargained for as all those caught in the act are beaten by angry mobs to the point of death.

As the lockdown period have been extended, the Inspector General of police has deployed special squad to the affected areas in order to regain peace and safety within these communities. Even with that move, various vigilante groups has stated that they will keep coming out to protect their families and properties against these hoodlums and criminal minded individuals and they will ensure that they get what they deserve.

This epistle is a total waste, I couldn't point out a reasonable point.

I noticed your threads ( the past 4-5) has been a total disaster, you were expecting people to serve you MEAT (in joining you to bash the SW ) but instead they ridiculed you.

I pity the unfortunate man that married you, God knows the calamity the man has been nursing.

Madam get back to the kitchen.

If they weren't robbers at the beginning, how did they form a gang so quickly?

Or were they all of the same trade?

What this means is that these criminals have been doing this even before the lock down.

The South West has always been a hotbed for crime in Nigeria.

These guys do go bus stops everyday to pick pockets, some do go obtain with okada at nights , so when all these are not coming up , they regroup into pure naked robberies ( see me I see u ),

Don't believe any one that give u excuses he went into crime cos of hungry, u must be crime oriented before hungry push u .

How can u rob a fellow struggler and said it's hungry, the person u rob , is it okay with him or her ? So all of us should go into robbery ? No !
