5G is currently one of the trending buzz words in the tech world and Samsung Networks seems to be at the top of its game. The company has now successfully pulled off a new record-breaking speed in its tests.

In the test, there were two client devices receiving 4.3Gbps of peak data speeds simultaneously for a total of 8.5Gbps from a single Samsung 5G mmWave Access Unit. It was only natural that this feat was achieved using high-frequency mmWave technology. This is where such speeds are attainable, albeit in controlled conditions.

mmWave has proven to be really impressive in terms of speed and response time. However, it is also very fickle in terms of connection stability and range. Something as thin as a sheet of paper is often enough to disrupt an mmWave connection. This has been a topic of criticism for mmWave for some time. However, there is also good news as summed up in the official press release:

"With multi-gigabit speeds, users can experience transformational 5G mobile services. Mobile operators will be able to deliver new and rich services such as 8K video streaming, AR remote learning and holistic VR teleconferencing as well as new use cases that are yet to be imagined."

At the moment, only a handful of countries already have 5G mmWave spectrums assigned. These include the U.S., Japan and South Korea. We do not yet have real-world installations but Samsung Networks has already achieved this record-breaking speed.
