Yes, winter normally sets in around June, but because of climate change it is not uncommon anymore to start feeling the chill in May or even April, which is the case this year. But it's not winter yet, it's still autumn when everything starts to die off.

As for the snow, it starts first around the Drakensberg and Lesotho mountains in April every year.
