What is Freight?
Freight transport is the transportation of commodities, merchandise goods and cargo via land, sea or air. The four freight methods are:

In the freight process, one major player who is needed from the beginning to the end of shipment when the goods are delivered is the forwarder.

Freight Forwarding
The forwarder, otherwise called the forwarding agent or ‘non-vessel operating common carrier’, is the individual or company that organizes shipments for people or corporations. They will contract with a carrier or often multiple carriers to transport cargo. Although the forwarder does not move the goods, he serves as a middleman and an expert in the logistics network. Forwarders understand trade (even international trade), they are knowledgeable of the regulations and facilitate shipments on behalf of the clients. The forwarding process can be daunting and involves meticulous documentation and logistics, thus why there is a market for these forwarding agents.

However, it is important to have a scope of the forwarding process. The following section gives a brief overview of the process.

•Stage One: “The move” from warehousing facilities to a designated warehouse which can be owned or leased by the forwarding agent.

•Stage Two: “Receiving” and checking in the goods to ensure every item was transported to the warehouse location without any incident.

•Stage three: “Submission” of documents to customs agents. However, some agents will require the client to do this step, others are willing to negotiate the preparation of these crucial manifests.

•Stage Four: “Bringing in” the transported goods. This stage can be carried out by custom agents or by the freight forwarder who will receive the goods from customs, does the necessary paperwork and documentation.

•Stage Five: “Transport” the goods to an infrastructure within the destination country. A third party may be brought in or the client may have a warehouse ready to receive the goods.
