Coronavirus pandemic has subtly become a major outbreak in Nigeria since late February 2020 when the country confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on a Nigeria based Italian man with recent travel history from his home country Italy.



Despite the rapid spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, some states in Nigeria are yet to record any confirmed case.


An investigation conducted by mybbcnews revealed that there are about eleven states across the country that are coronavirus free.

Both the Federal and state government in Nigeria are pulling resources together in order to ensure the spread of the pandemic is contained.

The following are the states without any confirmed case of COVID-19.

1. Kogi
2. Kebbi
3. Imo
4. Ebonyi
5. Plateau
6. Bayelsa
7. Zamfara
8. Cross River
9. Nasarawa
10. Taraba
11. Yobe

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ), it will be recalled that the first confirmed case of coronavirus was recorded in Lagos, the commercial city of the country with a population of about 17.5 million.

To date Lagos state has the highest number of COVID-19 confirmed cases followed by the federal capital territory, Abuja. While states like Anambra, Benue and Sokoto have the lowest number of cases.

As of today, the total number of deaths caused by coronavirus pandemic stood at 25 according to the NCDC website. The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari is among the dead victims of COVID-19.

The late Abba Kyari was among the first set of Nigerians to be confirmed with the virus that has infected over 2 million people, and causing over 180,000 deaths globally.

Isolation centres are being built across the country both by the Federal government and the state governors in order to provide a soft landing for those infected.

Also, relief materials such as food items and physical cash have been given out to low and daily income earners across the country.

The federal government of Nigeria recently imposed total lockdown in states like Lagos, Ogun, and Abuja (the Epicentres of the COVID-19 pandemic), thereby affecting the economic and financial status of daily income earners; hence the need for relief materials.

Enugu is free, Anambra is free

Can we really be sure they are free??test kits should be made available to all states irrespective of the status.

Until the number of citizens tested are ramped up we could just be living in fools paradise.
