Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association in Ekiti State, Alhaji Issa Adamu, says they have no plans to take the state government to court over its Anti-Grazing Law.

The Ayodele Fayose administration enacted the law in August 2016 to check the incessant clashes between herders and farmers in the state. According to the law, carrying guns by herders and leading their cattle to graze on some places are criminal offences.

Adamu, who called for the state government to review the law on Saturday, said it was preventing and discouraging cattle rearers from going about their legitimate business freely.

The GAFDAN chief advised the state government to organise a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the way forward.

He said, “We have no plans to take the state government to court over the law. All we want is for the law to be given a human face so that our people can work to earn a living.

“The state government needs to call GADFAN, Miyetti Allah, hunters, farmers and community members, among others, for a roundtable discussion so that we discuss how to go about it and how to cohabit peacefully without any side being a pest to the other. We are supposed to have input into the law.”
