The truth is, Nigeria is a very unproductive country, and that includes the oil producing states.

The problem with Nigeria is simple. When we got independent, our economy was based on exporting stuff, and using the revenue to import. The problem was the value of what we imported was greater than the value of what we exported.

Even our industries depended on imports. One reason why our car industry is not as vibrant as it should be is that most car manufacturers that have been here in Nigeria import everything, even the tiny components needed for the car to work...and that costs money...and the thing is, we don't export enough manufactured goods to pay for the imports

Then there is the idea that we have to share the money...which is limited, and which isn't enough.

That's why we are poor.

Nigerians need to understand one thing ... corruption is part of democracy

Democracy can never be efficient , it's impossible and unrealistic....

Based on revenue and development on ground Nigeria is far more effective than America by miles

Our politicians fail because they don't understand the problem , the issue is lack of revenue not corruption ....u need to understand this n find a way to work with the corruption

USA is fantastically corrupt , Indonesia , South Korea , Brazil , south Africa and India ....none is less corrupt than Nigeria ....but they have a large revenue

If we can tax out 30% of our GDP like these countries ...that's around 120 billion dollars
Around 43 trillion naira ....

Even the most corrupt person would. Impact the lives of every Nigeria ....in 10 years that 430 trillion pumped into our economy

It's impossible we can't develop with that
Hello Mrvitalis
How do you mean by the bolded?
Then I think you also said we are not productive as a nation, how productive do you think we should be? Is it by exportation of our own product or individual doing business to make sure we have our own share?
I don't understand, pls explain

*I'm just learning though*

Good point, but anytime anyone says 'Taxes' on this site, you will get a lot of rough language aimed at you.

But the truth is, we don't pay enough taxes here in Nigeria.

How do people pay tax when average income is far lower than cost of living? You know, earnings are low... How else do you think people can pay tax?

First, most people in the developed world lose a large amount of their income in taxes.

Second, we aren't earning enough from oil either. And our agriculture is not even that productive. So, the only solution is taxation.

To be frank, either we pay more in tax, or we take more loans.

(Just to show you how bad it is, health, my area, got $2billion as budget for this year. Italy, Europe's poorest nation, has a budget for health of $100billion.)

I meant the south south states [akwa ibom, rivers, delta, bayelsa]. The rest of the states wether from the SE, SW, NC, NE, NW are all leeches but the bolded are the real parasites. Can you now go to hell? undecided

Money from Lagos port was used to develop Nigeria before oil was ever discovered. So, without SS, Lagos will still develop through its port.

What if Agriculture is doing well, how will it help in this matter?

The country is poor because only 4 states bear the brunt of funding/feeding 32 other non-profit/unproductive states. The almajiri north has refused to be productive and add to the National Treasury. So in a situation where the revenue accrued by the south is used to enrich the parasitic/leeching unproductive north to the detriment of the south lies the greatest corruption in modern times.
Aside oil, how productive is the south? Oil is a natural resources, we are talking about human productivity!!!

The south is more productive than the north in every ramification whether human or oil. Cattle herding is not human productivity.
