I told someone that schools aren’t supposed to charge for that but the person told me to keep quiet
The teachers who will teach online need money, don't also forget that they will need to subscribe for fast internet for transmission and they will need money to fuel their generators and power their fans.

I support the government on this. These Shylock Lagos private school owners will stop at nothing to exploit.
Let parents at least use this lockdown period to bond with their kids. Let the kids learn other things like crafts, domestic chores, etc. Let them be revising what they've been taught before, or let them just play.
We run a unified academic calendar at primary and secondary level. So, if they conclude their term online, so what happens to their counterparts in government schools?
what is the one saying... So they should pay for government stupidity.... Why can't government provide an enabling environment so they can teach puic student... Recall teachers in public sector will be paid what happen to teachers in private sectors who will pay them why is the government not talking about that.... My school is working online cos I need my April money.... Who government help?

Abeg allow them to teach online. That's the advantage technology offers. We're on lockdown not on shut down. Biko don't dull the children's brain

May I ask if you are a parent? If so how many kids do you have? Do you know a lot of parents whose children are in private schools will be cut from funds this period? For such people, how do you propose they pay the children's school bills? Have you considered the effect it will have on their finances at home? At least in terms of data and power? Have you also considered that this mode of teaching will also require supervision from parents who have to look for money? Have you considered the effect it will have on the entire educational system within the state, especially for govt schools, where the parents of kids who attend barely survive?

In life, we must learn to think not only of ourselves but the impact of our actions on the lives of people around us.

Advantage of technology where data is affordable, not in a country where data cost more than gold.

This statement from Government is not necessary. I understand that some, not all, are not interested in the students' learning but just to 'rake' in money. I believe that with internet, learning need not be restricted in anyway.

But, I am curious, what happens to students who didn't participate (for whatever reason, maybe they were robbed and devices stolen) in online classes when lockdown is over? Will what has been taught be redone or it is gone for good?

Monday Digest.

It takes courage for a person to seek help in any critical situation. It takes a build up confidence for someone to knock at your door at this time.

Hey! Of course people have their ego remember? Asking for financial assistance in this period or any time doesn't insinuate poverty, suffering or lack. It simply implies that they consider you as a person who they can lay their shoulders on.

In any sense, kindly assist if you can in your little capacity. Do not nag, Avoid grumbling, rumbling and complaining. Even if you're not in the best position to assist, please don't make them to feel bad or dejected. Give them an assurance of hope and better future. I can bet you, many people are going through difficult time.

we as a ppl are just selfish in this country, most parents are earning nothing during this times yet private school owners want to exploit them by putting more pressure on them to spend on non essentials. Only God sabi who we offend but seriously the one I am most concerned as a parent are kids having unlimited access to the internet because they are always at home and bored. This can actually expose them to pornography and other vices on the net cos as they say, an idle hand is the devil's workshop.

I don't know why the people in charge of education in Lagos are thinking like illiterates. First the age limit on admission now it's banning people from online classes because of stupid reasons which are partially the government's fault.

Fuel is cheaper because of the lockdown and won't the family use their generator for other uses? Does she think you need a mega generator to power a laptop or small computer?

The teachers are online with the students so the concerns about students 'being exposed to pornograhy are weak and silly'.

If they are concerned about online bullying they can easily report the students responsible. It's not like Lagos State government was doing anything about bullying in real life where older students see it as their right to bully younger ones. Do these people know how the Internet works at all?

Overall weak silly excuses, I'm disappointed. undecided

Any school that wants to proactively engage their students is free to do so.

Don't just coin it 'third term' and expect the students to pay.

The school could ask for a little fee for subjects per hour. E.g. N1,500/hr for a subject and add it to their 3rd term bill.

If you can Afford to send your kids to a school that pays over 250k per term, then you shouldn't have complaints about devices and power you need for the online classes. Only High cost schools would offer this, so Lagos state government should leave them alone
This has nothing to do with fees rather academic calendar.

What d state is against is that some schools have begun third term online and still charging fees. That's what d state government is against.

Kudos to Lagos state govt. The only working govt in Nigeria.

Over here in Abuja, Regent School organised such teaching via Skype. And already they've sent out secular instructing the parents to pay full term's school fees even though the parents get to do the bulk of the work.

I just don't get how callous some of these school owners can be. At a time when nobody is working, and everyone is supporting their less privileged ones the best way they can, these idiots want hundred thousands paid into their accounts for doing nothing.

I think the federal govt should follow suit and ban any school from doing such because it will disrupt the academic calendar

Yes, and the government says they should stop that. But schools are free to continue to offer lessons online if they wish, outside of the academic year structure. That is, by way of revisions and so.

Why resuming when public and less privileged have no chance to? Let us all be one during this unexpected global crisis.
And people like you will claim that the north is holding down the south educationally, because of quota system.

Most schools in the US continued teaching their students online. My friend who is a lecturer in a US university tells me he has been teaching his students online from home, and Lagos a supposedly progressive state is banning online teaching.

This coronavirus crisis should have been a test run for online education and teaching, which is the future of education. Many people get their degree without leaving their homes, Open university was inaugurated by Obasanjo over a decade ago.

Private school owners always have selfish interest. They are only concern on getting money. Online teaching cannot work in Nigeria for now.
An average African will always abuse the little freedom given to him/her.
Give those students a browsing fone with data, u will b surprised what majority of them will use it for.
