Exploring the unexplored palaces has become a passion for youngsters. More than the explored places there are many unexplored destinations in India. The nation comprises of stupendous 29 states and each state is abundantly blessed with scenic nature and lush green forests. It would be quiet difficult for an Indian to name the most beautiful state. But if there is someone who wants to enjoy and understand the unique culture and traditions of ancient Dravidian will have to definitely visit the southernmost state of India called Kerala. Everybody knows Kerala was formed by Parasurama by throwing his axe to the sea from the north. To dwell in the colourful festivals and to enjoy the beauty of cultural art forms one should definitely visit the most beautiful and scintillating district, Thrissur.

Popularly known as ‘cultural capital of Kerala’ the district is adorned with many beautiful temples, churches and mosques. In fact, the locals of Thrissur say that the district’s real beauty lies in the well-renowned temple called Vadakumnathan Temple situated at the centre part with the presiding deity Lord Shiva. Thrissur was formerly known as ‘Thrishivaperur’ which means ‘place named with Lord Shiva’. The name Vadakumnathan which means ‘land of north’ actually denotes the topography of the state. The intriguing places of the district draw an amusing image in every traveller’s mind. When someone hears the name of Thrissur the first image that comes into their minds will be of the world-famous temple festival called Thrissur Pooram. This festival lures not only the national but international travellers also. The festival is annually celebrated in the month of May with the procession of elephants. Including the Vadakumanthan Temple nearly 10 temples participate in this dazzling festival.

There are many more interesting places in Thrissur that captivate travellers to visit the place again and again. To enjoy the ancient cultural art forms one would have to visit the famous art school called Kerala Kalamandalam situated at Cheruthurthy. It was founded by the eminent poet, Vallathol Narayana Menon. The people who have seen the famous Bollywood movies Guru and Baahubali will never forget the waterfalls. It is really a prideful moment for Keralites to say that it was shot in Athirappilly and Vazhachal waterfalls situated in Chalakudy in Thrissur. Athirappilly waterfall is also known as ‘Niagara waterfalls of India’. The waterfall is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Other than these there are Marottichal waterfall, Charpa waterfall, and Pattathipara waterfall that lures traveller’s minds. Just like every district, even Thrissur is blessed with a few dams such as Peechi dam, Poomala dam, Peringalkuthu dam and so on. These dams are the perfect places for visitors to enjoy their weekend holidays. Closely located to Athirappilly one could find the famous hanging bridge at Thumboormuzhi and also astounding hill station at Malakkapara. There would be no one in the world who does not like to stroll in the soft sand bed barefooted.

The district is well-renowned for sun-kissed beaches like Snehatheeram beach- a perfect spot for the post-wedding shoot, Periyambalam beach- for herbal products and so on and the Nattika beach where the evergreen movie called ‘Chemmeen’ was shot. If you are a wildlife lover and want to interact with endangered species, don’t be disappointed the district is the best place to catch the amazing species of fauna and flora. The Chimmni wildlife sanctuary and Peechi-Vazhani wildlife sanctuary and also Thrissur Zoo are the exquisite destinations for the same.

If you are accompanying your family and small kids, you can select historic places such as palaces like Sakthan Thampuran Palace and museums. The region shelters five famous museums such as Vallathol Museum- it is one of the best places to read the unread pages of the great poet called Vallathol Narayanan Menon. The Mural art museum protects the ancient mural paintings, Stone Age tools, and life-size statues, several artefacts belonging to Indus Valley civilization and temple models and many more. Archaeological Museum is a paradise for art lovers; they protect earthen pots, sculptures, beads and so on. Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum unveils the advent of Ayurveda and Photomuse museum is a haven for talented photographs to display their priceless works. Strolling the lanes of the historic monuments may sometimes bore the children especially small kids for them the district opens the door of Dream World and Silver Storm amusement parks. It would be really happy news for small kids.

Everybody knows the state is well-renowned for backwaters and houseboats or commonly known as ‘kettuvalloms’ sailing through it. Just like Alleppey and Kollam, Thrissur does not carry numerous tranquil backwaters but shelters only one known as Chettuva backwater.

Chettuva backwater is situated in the Chettuva village and visitors can sail in the houseboat for a limited time period in the backwater and could explore the mesmerising nature. Along with these fascinating places, there are many unexplored places like the umbrella stones, virgin hill stations, and nature-oriented places like Vilangankunnu, Kauthuka Park, Thumboormuzhi gardens and many more.
