Oromoni Inaugurates Uvwie/Warri Environment Taskforce

The Chairman, Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Honourable Sylvester Oromoni on Tuesday inaugurated the Uvwie and Warri Taskforce on Environment.

Oromoni while inaugurating the Taskforce at the Governor's Office Annex in Warri, charged the members to ensure environmental cleanliness and avoid acts contrary to the law.

He said the taskforce was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring effective policing of environment in order to stop enviromental abuses, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, arrest and prosecution of environmental offenders.

Oromoni warned the taskforce not to go beyond their terms of engagement and to desist from any act that is contrary to the law establishing them.

"This taskforce is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring effective policing of environment in order to stop enviromental abuses, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, arrest and prosecution of environmental offenders.

"As you go about this onerous duty, let me advise that on no account should you go beyond your terms of engagement and desist from any act that is contrary to the law establishing the taskforce.

"While carrying out your duty, you must shun any act of corrupt practices, especially, illegal collection of money from defaulters.

"All offenders are expected to get booking and forward their payments to the State Government account.

"As part of your mandate, please remove all temporary structures along major roads that are not in line with the township development master plan.

"You are to also maintain and sustain clearing of drains as well as to control haphazard packing of vehicles, trucks and tricycles along major roads.

"In carrying out your duties, you must be fair to all citizens in the discharge of your assignment." he said

In a vote of thanks, the Delta Central and South Coordinator, Comr. Kingsley Iweka on behalf of the team promised that the Taskforce would carry out their duty without fear or favour.
