According to the Nigeria centre for disease control (NCDC), there are currently over 1,500 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country as of Tuesday the 28th day of April 2020.

Additional information from the NCDC website shows over 250 recovered cases and 44 deaths have been recorded so far nationwide.

Earlier this week President Muhammadu Buhari further extended the lockdown in major cities across the country. The lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun state was extended by one week after which there will be a minimal resumption of economic activities in the respective cities.

The big question is; why is there a sudden astronomical rise in the total number of COVID-19 cases across the country despite the various degree of a city-wide lockdown in the country?

It will be recalled that before the lockdown, Nigeria had a very insignificant number of coronavirus cases nationwide. Significant increase in the number of cases started right after the imposition of lockdown directive by the federal government.

Due to rising cases of coronavirus in the country, many Nigerians are now living in fear as to why there is no significant improvement from the management of the pandemic.

According to the ministry of health and the NCDC, the cause of the sudden increase in the number of cases is due to lack of co-operation from contacts of confirmed cases that refused to self-isolate or obey the various preventive guidelines.

According to the Nigeria centre for disease control, many of the suspected contacts of confirmed cases have rendered the purpose of contact tracing ineffective. The NCDC further stated that most of the suspected contacts are not willing to surrender themselves for quarantine, thereby endangering the lives of their close associates.

The NCDC also hinted that there are dozens of asymptomatic cases all over the country, which further compound the already complex situation. Patients that fall under this category usually manifest little or no symptoms of the virus and such persons can unknowingly spread the virus formally or otherwise.

This revelation has prompted the government to set up multiple coronavirus screening centres across the country, with both fixed and temporary testing centres to ensure more cases of the pandemic are uncovered and isolated as a way of curbing the spread.

The federal government through the federal ministry of health and other relevant bodies have instructed that all COVID-19 precautionary guidelines are to be obeyed and that awareness should be created via appropriate media to the general public.

The ministry advised that these measured must be taken by all in order to prevent a major outbreak of the pandemic as seen in Europe and America, stating that proper care is to be adopted for the virus to be contained since no vaccine or cure have been found.

According to the federal government, the COVID-19 city-wide lockdown in Lagos Ogun and Abuja is to be briefly relaxed after the current one-week extension.

Northern part of the country is joking with this pandemic...
40% of Hausa Fulani I meet online called it hoax, money making disease e.t.c.
So, if they flaunt stay at home order and criple social distance , we are in for doom. NCDC and presidential task force on covid-19 toys with the lives of northeners.

Southerners are trying actively to contain this pandemic.

Though we thank GOD for lower mortality rate.

We shall soon overcome this

That is one of the biggest challenges, Lack of awareness.
Many Nigerians have deliberately refused to accept the simple reality about this pandemic.

That is a nice idea...but the issue is; is the government willing to take up that responsibility?
